How to relieve children’s vomiting?

It is very common for babies to develop diseases during their growth. What most parents worry about most is their children getting sick. Once a child is sick, not only will the child suffer physically from the pain, but the parents will also be very worried. Vomiting in children is a very common phenomenon, but there are many reasons for vomiting, which need to be taken seriously.

How to relieve children's vomiting?

1. After temporarily withholding food and water for about 1 to 2 hours, if the child's vomiting has eased and his spirit and general condition are good, try giving the child 10 to 20 ml of warm sugar saline or warm oral rehydration saline again. If the child is able to drink it, repeat the dose every 20 to 30 minutes. If your child does have difficulty drinking water, you need to monitor him/her carefully to see if he/she is dehydrated. If you are not yet dehydrated, continue to fast and allow the gastrointestinal tract to rest for a while; if you are already dehydrated, you should be sent to the hospital for fluid replacement in time.

2. Fasting, fluid replacement, and acid correction are the basic principles of doctor's treatment. The length of fasting time is not determined subjectively by the doctor, but depends on the child's condition. Replenishing water is not just about correcting dehydration, the key is to replenish the electrolyte loss and acid-base imbalance caused by vomiting. At this time, the doctor often needs to draw blood from the child for appropriate examinations.

What should parents do when their children vomit?

1. Once the child urinates, notify the doctor or nurse immediately so that the infusion can be adjusted in time. During the rehydration process, whether the child can start drinking water or eating food again should be discussed and decided with the doctor and nurse. However, even if you can start drinking water again, you should do it step by step: warm water containing sugar and salt → mushy rice porridge or special milk powder specially suitable for gastrointestinal discomfort → ordinary baby milk powder → baby food, and transition slowly.

2. The entire transition process will take at least 1 week. During this period, do not consider the child's nutrition problem for the time being, because nutrition can only be discussed after vomiting is corrected. Otherwise, adding nutritious food too early will only increase the gastrointestinal burden and continue vomiting, which will affect the nutritional status of the baby.

When children are not feeling well, parents are always worried. But no matter how worried you are, you must not give medicine to your baby yourself. If the baby's vomiting is not very serious, you can give him some saline solution and observe him first. If it is very serious, you should go to the hospital for examination in time. If a child is not feeling well, he or she must pay more attention to rest and reduce going out.
