What to do if a three-year-old baby has a high fever and convulsions

Generally speaking, parents are particularly troubled when their baby has a fever, because they don't know what method is best to use to reduce the fever. This is mainly because fever can damage the nervous system in the baby's brain. If the fever persists, it is likely to cause some complications. However, when the high fever does not subside, there is no way to reduce the fever in time. At this time, the baby will have a high fever convulsion, which is a very common complication.

Febrile convulsions can cause brain cell edema, brain hypoxia, and even brain cell damage, leading to brain dysfunction. Each febrile convulsion will bring new harm to brain cells. The longer the convulsion lasts, the greater the damage to the brain. In severe cases, it can cause permanent brain damage. Babies who experience repeated febrile convulsions may develop epilepsy in the future. Their intellectual development may also be affected, leading to mental retardation or even stupidity, so parents should pay attention to this. If your baby has a seizure, you should take the following measures to deal with it immediately:

(1) If you find your baby having a convulsion, parents should remain calm, put the child in bed immediately, unbutton the child's collar and belt as soon as possible, and keep the child quiet with the head tilted to one side to prevent vomit from being inhaled into the trachea. To prevent tongue bite, you can wrap a tongue depressor with gauze and place it between the upper and lower molars. If there is no tongue depressor, you can twist a handkerchief into a twist shape and stuff it between the child's molars. If there is secretion or food in the mouth, it must be cleared away immediately.

(2) Use strong stimulation techniques to acupuncture or press the Ren Zhong, He Gu and other acupoints with your fingers.

(3) If convulsions are accompanied by high fever, antipyretic sedatives should be taken. Apply a cold towel to your head, use a cold ice pack as a pillow, or use 33% warm alcohol as a bath to reduce fever.

(4) After the child’s convulsion stops, send him to the nearest hospital for treatment. If the convulsion cannot be stopped quickly, ask a doctor to treat the patient at home or rush the patient to the hospital for treatment if conditions permit.

Then you must massage your baby at this time, and it is best to keep their emotions calm and not let them get too excited. You can massage their acupoints. The most important thing is not to let them bite their tongue to avoid tongue bite. Wait until their convulsion is over before sending them to the hospital for treatment, otherwise more serious consequences will occur.
