What to do if children have dry lips

In autumn and winter, the weather is the driest. If you do not pay attention to replenishing water at this time, it is easy to cause chapped skin and dry lips. Even normal people will experience this situation, so children are more likely to experience this situation. Moreover, children do not understand anything and still need parents to take care of them. What should we do if children have dry lips?

Don't lick your chapped lips

When the autumn wind blows, the air humidity is low and the wind and sand are strong. Many people often have dry lips, cracks at the corners of their mouths that bleed and cause pain, which even affects their talking, laughing and eating.

The red area around the human lips is called the "vermilion border". Its moisture is maintained by the local abundant capillaries and a small number of underdeveloped sebaceous glands. Due to the low humidity and strong winds in autumn, the blood circulation of human skin and mucous membranes is poor. If you eat less fresh vegetables, the body's intake of vitamin B2 and vitamin A will be insufficient, and the skin and mucous membranes will become dry and cracked.

Some people like to lick their lips with their tongue to moisten them. In fact, this is a bad habit, because licking the lips can only bring temporary moisture. When the moisture on the lips evaporates, it will take away more moisture from inside the lips, causing your lips to fall into a vicious cycle of "dry - lick - drier - lick again". As a result, the more you lick, the more painful it becomes, and the more cracked your lips become. What's more, saliva contains substances such as amylase. When the wind blows, the water evaporates, taking away the heat and making the temperature of the lips lower. The amylase then sticks to the lips, causing the deep connective tissue to contract and the lip mucosa to wrinkle, making the lips drier. In severe cases, it may cause infection, swelling and pain.

Don't panic if your lips are chapped. The first thing to do is to change the bad habit of licking your lips. Secondly, you should drink more water and eat more fresh vegetables, pears, water chestnuts and other foods that have the effect of promoting fluid production and nourishing yin. Of course, you can also take vitamin A or B at the same time, so that chapped lips can heal quickly.

1. Apply lipstick

2. Apply vitamin E before going to bed at night

3. Don’t lick the cracks with your tongue

4. Take more vitamins

To prevent and treat chapped lips, it is mainly important to eat more fresh vegetables, such as bean sprouts, rapeseed, Chinese cabbage, white radish, etc. Wear a mask whenever possible to keep your lips warm and moist. You can also apply some oil, such as facial oil, sesame oil or other cooking oil, or use honey or frostbite cream. If you feel your lips are chapped, don't lick them all the time, as this will accelerate the occurrence of chapped lips. The most important treatment principle is to adjust the diet. In addition, oral riboflavin (vitamin B2 5 mg, 3 times a day, for 2 weeks, generally can be cured. Topical 1% gentian can be used

Apply purple, twice a day. After using gentian violet, if the wound surface becomes dry and cracked and feels uncomfortable, you can add chlortetracycline eye ointment or oxytetracycline ointment and apply it to the dry and cracked area, or you can apply a little peanut oil or rapeseed oil. But never use hormone ointments (such as Fuqing, cortisone, etc.). You can also apply the steam water from the pot lid to the affected area three times a day, and it will be effective after 2-3 days.

In autumn and winter, the weather is dry and windy, and many people will feel dry and chapped lips, so they will lick their lips unconsciously. However, the result is often counterproductive, and the symptoms of dry lips are aggravated, and even cause swelling of the lips and blood scabs. In fact, the above symptoms are typical clinical manifestations of chronic cheilitis.

Chronic cheilitis is a chronic, nonspecific inflammatory lesion of the lips, which is mostly caused by various long-term and continuous stimuli, such as dryness and cold, and especially related to bad habits such as licking and biting the lips. When you lick your lips with your tongue, due to the dry air outside, the moisture brought by the saliva will not only evaporate quickly, but will also take away the little moisture that already exists on the lips, causing a vicious cycle of licking more and more, which makes the lips drier. In severe cases, it may even cause pigmentation on the skin at the corners of the mouth.

If your lips are dry, you should avoid licking them with your tongue, but children don’t understand this. If they feel their lips are dry, they will definitely lick them with their tongue, which will only make the situation worse. What should we do if children have dry lips?
