What to do if your child has hard earwax in his ears

Earwax is called cerumen, which is a yellow and sticky secretion from the external auditory canal. Having appropriate earwax can protect the ears to a certain extent. Of course, it should be cleaned regularly. If the earwax is hard, it means that it is not cleaned enough or it is caused by inflammation. You should see a doctor in time and give your baby some medicine for treatment.

What to do if your child has hard earwax in his ears

1. See a doctor

Once you find that the earwax in your baby's ears has become hard, you should first see a doctor. The doctor will then prescribe a special medicine (sodium bicarbonate) to soften the earwax and ask you to apply it to your baby for 3-4 days. Once the earwax inside has softened, they have special tools to absorb the earwax and suck it out.

2. Give your baby drops of medicine on time

After the doctor prescribes the medicine, he will tell you how many times a day to apply it according to the baby's condition. My family applies it 4-5 times a day. It's my fault for negligence. I never dug out earwax for my baby from birth to 4 years old. I regret it so much.

3. Pay attention to observation and care

After applying the medicine prescribed by the doctor to your baby, you must observe your baby's ears from time to time and wipe the baby's external auditory canal with a wet cloth or sterilized cotton to keep it clean.

4. Be patient

Now that you have seen a doctor, just calm down and wait. As long as the child is in good spirits, can eat, drink and sleep.

5. Cooperate with the doctor to absorb the softened earwax

Use the medicine prescribed by the doctor for 3-4 days. The earwax in the ear should be softened by then. You can go to the hospital to see a doctor. After checking, the doctor will use special tools to help the baby suck out the earwax.

6. It is better to use traditional methods with caution

I heard from the elderly that dropping sesame oil into the ears can soften earwax. Personally, I think it is better not to use the drops, because you cannot guarantee the hygiene and safety of the sesame oil. What if the baby gets otitis media after using the drops? Who can say for sure? Besides, the baby cannot stand the tossing and turning.

If there is earwax in your ears and it is too hard and painful to dig, you can go to the hospital. The doctor prescribed sodium bicarbonate and put it in the bottle of norfloxacin eye drops. Squeeze out the norfloxacin eye drops and put in sodium bicarbonate. Apply the drops every 2 to 3 hours, 2 to 3 drops each time, on one side of the ear to help soften the cerumen. Do this for 3 consecutive days, and then go to the hospital to have a specialist flush it out.
