What is the cause of high blood lipids in children?

In our impression, high blood lipids are more likely to occur in middle-aged and elderly people or those who are overweight. However, some abnormal situations may occur, that is, children may also have high blood lipids. Children are relatively young, and high blood lipids will definitely be very confusing to parents. So, what is the reason for high blood lipids in children? Let’s take a look below.

1. Positive family history of cardiovascular disease

I have mentioned before that high blood lipids are hereditary. If there are patients with cardiovascular diseases such as hyperlipidemia in the family, the younger generations may suffer from hyperlipidemia. Parents should note that if there is a history of this genetic disease in the family, they should pay attention to it from an early age and have their children's blood lipid levels checked regularly.

2. Bad eating habits

With the improvement of living standards, children gradually develop some bad eating habits, such as high-fat, high-calorie, high-protein diet; love of sweets and fried foods; picky eaters, dislike of vegetarian food, love of snacks, etc.

At present, some scholars have suggested that in addition to controlling the total energy intake, attention should also be paid to the proportion of fat in the diet in the prevention and treatment of hyperlipidemia in children. A low-fat diet, especially low in saturated fatty acids and cholesterol, should be chosen.

3. Bad exercise habits

For example, short activity time, too few sports, and low physical activity amount. Nowadays children like to watch cartoons. Some parents are too indulgent to their children and let them do whatever they want. Over time, they develop a habit of sitting for long periods of time.

4. Obesity and overweight

Experts analyzed the reasons for the continued increase in childhood obesity rates and preliminarily determined that it is related to skipping breakfast, frequent snacking, picky eating, overnutrition, lack of exercise, genetics, mental trauma, watching TV for long periods of time, and reduced physical activity due to concerns about children getting hurt.

Therefore, it is not surprising that children suffer from high blood lipids. Since most children with hyperlipidemia have no obvious clinical symptoms and only have obesity as a sudden symptom, they are easily overlooked.

However, this does not mean that the dangers do not exist. Many parents do not know that high blood lipids in children can cause endless troubles.

A large number of clinical studies have shown that if a child is found to have lipid metabolism disorders at around the age of 10, he may develop atherosclerosis in his 20s, and then develop cerebrovascular diseases such as coronary heart disease; after the age of 30, he will also suffer from diseases such as hypertension and diabetes, and it is not surprising even if he suffers a myocardial infarction; when he reaches the age of 40, the probability of hypertension, coronary heart disease, and damage to the heart, brain, and kidney function is greatly increased.

If treatment is started at this time, the prognosis may not be very good for some patients, resulting in lack of energy at work, premature aging of the body, and further weakening of male sexual function. If you don't pay attention to rest at work and work pressure cannot be released in time, the chance of sudden death will increase significantly.
