What are the symptoms of chronic tonsillitis in babies?

As we all know, no matter what kind of disease it is, as long as it occurs, there will be certain symptoms. It’s just that the symptoms of some diseases are more obvious, while the symptoms of other diseases are more hidden and not easy to find. Since babies are a high-risk group for tonsillitis, parents must know more about the symptoms of tonsillitis, especially the symptoms of chronic tonsillitis.

1. Symptoms

Chronic patients may experience mild symptoms such as dry throat, itching, foreign body sensation, and irritating cough during the intervals between attacks. Bad breath may occur if cheesy putrefactive material or anaerobic infection remains in the tonsil crypts. Some children may experience snoring, difficulty breathing, swallowing or speech resonance disorders during sleep due to excessive hypertrophy of tonsils. Due to the discharge of pus plugs in the tonsillar crypts and being swallowed, the gastrointestinal tract is stimulated, or due to the absorption of bacterial toxins in the crypts, indigestion or systemic reactions such as headache, fatigue, and low fever may occur.

2. Physical signs

In chronic cases, the tonsils have irregular sizes, and have mostly shrunk in adults. Scar contraction can be seen on the surface, which is uneven and may be adhered to the palatine arch. There are often debris or purulent substances in the crypt openings, and the palatoglossal arch is dark red. When the palatoglossal arch is squeezed, yellow-white cheesy dots can be seen overflowing from the crypt openings.

When the baby shows symptoms of acute tonsillitis, parents must pay attention to it and let the baby receive regular treatment in time. If the treatment is delayed, the disease can easily develop into chronic tonsillitis, which will then be more difficult to treat, and the harm and suffering suffered by the baby will be doubled. Parents need to pay attention.
