What is the reason for the baby to lick his lips?

When I was very young, I always did some strange things unconsciously, which made my parents very worried. Many babies have the habit of licking their lips, especially in autumn and winter when their lips are prone to chapped lips. If they lick their lips frequently at this time, scabs will appear on their mouths. Not only is it painful, but it will also make the baby's mood change with him. So why does the baby lick his lips?

Babies love to lick their lips because their lips are dry. Dry lips are a very common phenomenon. There are two reasons for this: lack of vitamins and lack of water. Dryness and cracking at the corners of the mouth is a sign of vitamin deficiency. You should supplement vitamins, eat more fruits and vegetables, and avoid picky eating.

Lack of water or dry mouth due to talking too much can cause dry lips and accumulation of dead skin on the lips or corners of the mouth. At this time, you should drink more water and keep your lips clean. When the lip skin is raised, do not tear it with your hands, as this can easily tear the lips, causing pain and bleeding. You can use small scissors to carefully cut off the raised skin on your lips in front of a mirror.

There is another situation like this: every winter, many people feel their lips are dry and chapped, so they lick their lips unconsciously, but the result is often counterproductive, the symptoms of dry lips are aggravated, and even cause swelling of the lips and blood scabs. In fact, the above symptoms are typical clinical manifestations of chronic cheilitis.

In addition, lips are prone to scabs in autumn, which is also related to the bad habit of licking lips. Since saliva contains a variety of digestive enzymes, after the saliva on the lips evaporates, these large molecular proteins will remain on the lips and form a scab together with the shed cells on the lips. Since the tissue under the scab is incomplete, if it is torn off forcibly, it will cause more local exudation and thus form more scabs.

Why do babies lick their lips? This is just a habit and will not harm the baby's health. However, if the lips are dry, licking them will make them even drier. Therefore, parents should use the correct method to guide their children to change bad habits. In addition, when the baby's lips are chapped, they should give the child more water and more vitamins.
