How to treat neonatal jaundice

How to treat neonatal jaundice

Newborns are prone to jaundice, which can be either physiological or pathological. The mother of a newborn can feed the baby some sugar water, which will help the jaundice subside. No treatment is needed, but if the jaundice is very severe, you should go to the hospital for further examination. Jaundice can cause children to become thirsty, cry, vomit, etc., which is very detrimental to their growth and development. I hope you can treat it in time.

Feeding more sugar water can speed up the disappearance of jaundice and no treatment is needed. However, if jaundice is severe, phototherapy and further examination should be performed to prevent pathological jaundice.

In damp-heat type jaundice, children's skin is bright yellow, like a dry color, accompanied by fever, irritability, crying, thirst, vomiting, yellow urine, constipation and other symptoms. It is often treated with Chinese medicine such as Artemisia capillaris, Gardenia jasminoides, Rhubarb, Scutellaria baicalensis, Plantago seed, Rhizoma Anemarrhenae, and Tangerine peel. It is accompanied by high fever, irritability and shortness of breath, or convulsions, or coma, and gastrointestinal symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea. This type of disease is generally more serious, and most patients suffer from kernicterus.

Stasis type jaundice can be seen as yellowing of the face and body. The yellow color is darker and duller, and gradually worsens. The body becomes emaciated, the appetite decreases, the stool becomes loose, and there are skin bleeding and ecchymoses. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that this is due to the penetration of heat evil, which damages the spleen and stomach and causes blood stasis. Therefore, the treatment requires promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis, nourishing the liver and strengthening the spleen. Traditional Chinese medicine can use drugs such as bupleurum, red peony root, white peony root, angelica, peach kernel, safflower, chuanxiong, citron, tangerine peel, poria, yam, and Millettia reticulata.

Children with spleen-dampness type jaundice have yellow skin that is difficult to fade over time. The skin is dark in color, the complexion is dull, the physique is thin, there is fatigue and poor appetite, the stools are loose and soft, and the limbs are cold. Treatment can be by strengthening the spleen and eliminating dampness, and harmonizing the middle. Chinese medicine can use Artemisia capillaris, Atractylodes macrocephala, dried ginger, Codonopsis pilosula, yam, Poria, Citron, Acorus calamus, Curcuma aromatica, charred hawthorn, etc. Chinese patent medicine can use Jianpi pills, Diyin mixture, etc.

I hope the information I collected can help you. If a child has symptoms of jaundice, it can be treated with traditional Chinese medicine. For example, Atractylodes macrocephala, dried ginger, Codonopsis pilosula, and yam can mainly treat jaundice in children. If a child's jaundice is very serious, he or she must go to a large hospital in a big city for an examination to ensure the baby's health.
