Can a five-month-old baby drink yogurt?

Although yogurt can help our stomach digestion, we know that the body resistance of a five-month-old baby is relatively weak. If we give them yogurt at this time, it may cause the bacteria in the yogurt to grow in the child's body, so we recommend that mothers do not give their children yogurt. If mothers want to supplement their children with some nutrition, they can do so by supplementing breast milk.

In infants, the gastrointestinal system is not yet fully developed, the gastric mucosal barrier is not sound, and the activity of gastric acid and pepsin is low, which is only 1/2 of that of adults at 4-6 months. The yogurt undergoes an acidification process and has a lower pH value. Once it enters the gastrointestinal tract, it can "corrode" the baby's delicate gastrointestinal mucosa and affect digestion and absorption.

In addition, the microbial flora in the gastrointestinal tract of infants is in the growth and change stage and is not yet stable. Drinking yogurt may cause excessive intake of Lactobacillus acidophilus, leading to an imbalance in the ecological balance of the original microbial flora in the intestine, thereby causing intestinal diseases. Therefore, children under one year old should not drink yogurt. Although children over one year old can drink yogurt, they should not drink it on an empty stomach. It turns out that the environment in the stomach on an empty stomach is not conducive to the growth of Lactobacillus acidophilus, which will make the yogurt lose its nutritional value.

Children's staple food is mainly milk, usually fed with breast milk or infant formula. Milk is rich in nutrients and easy for babies to digest and absorb. Yogurt can promote intestinal peristalsis and help the intestines clean out food residues, but drinking too much can easily cause diarrhea. Babies' gastrointestinal tracts are relatively delicate and sensitive, and poor digestion and absorption can easily cause adverse reactions. It is best not to give yogurt to children.

A five-month-old baby cannot eat these. He can drink them appropriately at least after he is one year old. Now, giving the child rice noodles and egg yolks is enough. To supplement calcium for a baby, you must first make it clear whether calcium supplementation is needed. Not all babies need calcium supplementation. If a bottle-fed baby consumes 700 to 750 ml of formula milk every day, the calcium intake is sufficient. Generally, breastfed babies can supplement calcium.

Regarding the article’s introduction that five-month-old babies are best not to drink yogurt, I hope mothers can pay attention to it, which will help you take care of your children in life. For a five-month-old baby, it is best to breastfeed, and the mother should eat more nutritious foods to increase milk supply.
