What is onychoblastoma?

Children are a relatively vulnerable group and are often troubled by diseases due to their low immunity. Among them, blastoma is a relatively common disease that affects children's health. Blastoma is a tumor that occurs in the child's brain. This type of disease must be treated in a timely manner, otherwise as the tumor worsens and grows, the child's health will be greatly affected. So what exactly is blastoma?

Neuroblastoma is the most common extracranial tumor in children and the most common tumor in infants and young children. Nearly half of neuroblastomas occur in children under 2 years of age.

Neuroblastoma accounts for approximately 6-10% of childhood cancers and 15% of childhood cancer mortality. For children under 4 years old, the mortality rate is 10 per million population; for children aged 4-9 years, the mortality rate is 4 per million population.

Neuroblastoma is a neuroendocrine tumor that can arise from any part of the neural crest of the sympathetic nervous system. It most commonly occurs in the adrenal glands, but can also occur in the nerve tissue of the neck, chest, abdomen, and pelvis.

Causes

The true cause of neuroblastoma is still unclear. Several genetic susceptibility factors have been found to be associated with the development of neuroblastoma. Familial neuroblastoma has been shown to be caused by somatic mutations in anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK). In addition, many molecular mutations have been found in neuroblastoma. Amplification mutations of the N-myc gene are also common in neuroblastoma. The amplification patterns were bidirectional: 3-10-fold amplification at one extreme and 100-300-fold amplification at the other extreme. Amplification mutations of the N-myc gene are often associated with tumor spread. The LMO1 gene has been shown to be associated with the malignancy of tumors.

Infants and young children are more susceptible to diseases such as blastoma, so some pregnant women also need to pay special attention to some things during pregnancy and try to stay away from radiation sources. At the same time, you should also try not to drink alcohol and ensure enough sleep at night. You may consider taking more folic acid in the early stages of pregnancy, which is very helpful in preventing fetal malformations.
