How to treat meningitis in children

Meningitis is a particularly serious disease, especially for children. If not treated promptly, the child may die within hours or suffer permanent brain damage, so parents should always pay attention to the health and safety of their children. But what if a child develops meningitis? I believe that most parents don’t know much about it, so now let me explain to you how to treat meningitis in children.

Conventional treatment If you have meningitis, you should go to the hospital immediately for treatment until the infection is completely eradicated, which takes about 2 weeks. If you have bacterial meningitis, you will be given high doses of antibiotics, possibly given intravenously. Antibiotics are widely used to treat bacterial meningitis. Because antibiotics are ineffective against viral meningitis, antiviral drugs should be added.

Fluid therapy and rest are also often used. Because meningitis is contagious, you will be placed in an isolation room for at least 48 hours. If meningitis makes the patient sensitive to light, the room will be darkened. Drink plenty of fluids and take aspirin to relieve fever and headache. Doctors may need to drain the infected sinuses and mastoids (the bone behind the ear) to prevent reinfection. If the person has pneumococcal meningitis, doctors may give preventive antibiotics to people who have more contact with the person.

Furthermore, vaccination against Haemophilus influenzae is now a fixture of childhood immunization.

Because meningitis develops rapidly and is life-threatening, patients should receive emergency treatment before selective therapy is used. Therapy is chosen with the intention of helping the patient recover and rebuild the immune system to prevent relapse.

Get biofeedback therapy, get systemic treatment or see a Chinese medicine practitioner. A TCM practitioner may recommend acupuncture and acupressure, or combine it with Chinese herbal medicine to boost immunity. A massage therapist or osteopath can also help patients regain strength.

I believe all parents know how to treat meningitis. In addition to the above methods, in daily life, parents must also ensure that their children's diet and nutrition are balanced, eat low-fat, high-fiber, nutritious foods, and try to avoid eating sugar and processed foods. Finally, the editor wishes all the children good health.
