Why do babies like to rub their eyes?

When our eyes feel uncomfortable, we will rub them involuntarily, but does the baby rub his eyes frequently because he feels uncomfortable? Why do babies' eyes feel uncomfortable? Is it because there is something wrong with the baby's body? If there is really a problem with the baby's health, timely examination and treatment should be carried out. So why do babies like to rub their eyes?

Rubbing the baby's eyes is a natural reaction and there is no need to worry too much under normal circumstances. However, if the baby develops inward-turned eyelids, inverted eyelashes, allergic eczema, conjunctivitis, etc., timely treatment is required.

Condition 1: Eyelids turning inward and eyelashes falling out

When a baby is just born, its skin is relatively loose and its nose bridge is relatively short and flat, which can easily cause the lower eyelid to turn inward. At three months, the baby's eyelashes begin to grow longer and thicker. Due to the pulling force of the lower eyelid, the eyelashes grow inward and easily touch the baby's eyeball and even rub the cornea, making the baby feel uncomfortable and rub his eyes. At the same time, the baby will also be afraid of the light, shed tears, and have increased eye secretions.

The phenomenon of inverted eyelashes is quite common among babies, so parents don't need to worry too much. If the inverted eyelashes are severe and often rub against the cornea, parents should take the baby to the hospital in time and use eye drops for the baby as prescribed by the doctor to relieve the symptoms.

Generally speaking, it is not recommended for parents to cut their children's eyelashes, because after the eyelashes are cut, when they grow out again, not only will the direction remain unchanged, but they will become thicker and harder. When the baby is about two years old, the bridge of the nose becomes higher and the facial skin becomes tighter, the eyelashes will naturally grow outwards, and the phenomenon of inverted eyelashes will gradually disappear.

Condition 2: Allergic eczema

Babies with allergic constitutions are particularly prone to allergic eczema due to external and food stimulation. Many red spots appear around the baby's eyes, and patches of red spots appear if rubbed.

In response to this situation, parents should find ways to keep their babies away from allergens and pollution sources, keep the home clean and the air fresh, stay away from newly renovated houses, and pay attention to the use of air conditioners. In addition, be careful to avoid splashing shower gel or shampoo into your eyes. When your baby develops allergic eczema, you can use anti-allergic eye drops, and it will heal naturally after a period of time.

Condition 3: Conjunctivitis

Babies like to crawl on the ground and touch their eyes with their hands, which can easily cause conjunctivitis due to bacterial or viral infection. When suffering from conjunctivitis, babies will often rub their eyes because of eye discomfort, and eye secretions will increase, sometimes accompanied by tears.

We cannot understand the baby's emotions, so we must always pay attention to the baby's health condition so that we can live a more stable life. The baby will not tell us if he is feeling uncomfortable, but we can observe. We love our children so much, how can we bear to let them suffer?
