How to massage baby's tear glands

The lacrimal gland is an organ that secretes tears. Many babies will experience symptoms of lacrimal gland obstruction soon after birth. Their eyes will shed tears for no reason, and sometimes eye mucus will cover their eyes, making them unable to open. For some babies, the blockage of their tear ducts will improve on its own by around six months old, but for some babies, external massage is needed to help unblock their tear ducts. Here is some experience of mothers in massaging to help their babies unblock their tear ducts.

1. Mothers can massage the inner corner of the baby's eyes by pressing down with the fingertips, releasing, and pressing again, ten times in a row. Then, massage from the inner corner of the eyes to the side of the nose, from top to bottom, also ten times.

2. Use your thumb to press down from the inner canthus along the bridge of the nose to the nose wing, five times a day, five times each time. Remember to trim your nails cleanly. You don't need to use too much force. Just squeeze it at the inner corner of your eye with your fingers. Try it a few times. If something gelatinous comes out, it means it's done. The key is to use Tobrex eye drops for anti-inflammatory purposes. When pressing, be careful not to use too much force.

3. You can use local massage method, use your fingers to pull the inner corner of the eye upward and downward, more than ten times each time, two or three times a day. When doing massage, pay attention to hand cleanliness, and be gentle and not too rough.

Mothers should give their babies more water. Some older babies can clear the blockage by themselves. If not, massage therapy can be used, massaging the tear pores and the bridge of the nose 3 to 5 times a day to help clear the blockage. If the baby does not get better, you should take the baby to see a doctor in time for surgery to clear the tear ducts.
