What should I do if my child has prickly heat?

Prickly heat is the most common skin problem in children and often occurs in the hot and humid summer. Because children have delicate skin and their sweat glands are not yet fully developed, they are more likely to develop heat rash. In addition to children, people who sweat too much or are obese often suffer from heat rash. In addition, the body's vigorous metabolism causes sweat pores to become clogged. What are the methods to deal with prickly heat? I will tell you below.

What to do if you have prickly heat

1. If prickly heat occurs on the head and neck, the child's hair should be cut short, or the hairstyle should be changed, combing the hair back and not leaving it on the forehead. Cut your nails regularly to avoid scratching and secondary skin infection.

2. If prickly heat grows on the body, you should bathe your child regularly, change clothes frequently, and keep the skin clean and dry.

3. It is best to use warm water when bathing and do not use soap to reduce irritation. If you add a few drops of toilet water into the bath water, the effect will be better. When bathing, avoid rubbing the areas with prickly heat hard to prevent skin abrasions and infection. After washing, gently dry it with a towel and apply some talcum powder or prickly heat powder to relieve itching. You should use non-irritating bath soap, which is less irritating to the skin.

4. Clothes should be light, soft and loose to reduce friction on the skin.

5. Don’t let your children play in the sun and wipe their sweat frequently. For babies under one year old, parents should not hold them all day long. Instead, they can lay a mat in a cool and ventilated place and let the child play freely.

Create a comfortable environment for your child. Air conditioners and electric fans are both good helpers. Electric fans can be directed towards the wall, and the air conditioner can be adjusted to 25-28℃ (within 5-10℃ of the outside temperature), as long as the wind does not blow directly onto the child's body.

The editor would like to point out here that prickly heat is different from eczema and is not an allergic symptom in itself. It is related to the inability of sweat glands to sweat in time when it is hot. Generally speaking, it is not recommended to use powder-based anti-prickly heat products, because prickly heat powder can easily invade the respiratory tract and be harmful to children's health. For areas that already have prickly heat, it is more likely to cause pores to become clogged.
