Why does my child keep blinking recently?

Nowadays, more and more children have been exposed to electronic products since childhood. Long-term use and staring at the screen will cause varying degrees of eye discomfort symptoms, mainly manifested as dry eyes, itchy eyes, and burning eyes. Blinking is beyond our control. Everyone blinks involuntarily, but frequent blinking is abnormal, which is mostly caused by lifestyle habits. Let me explain the reasons below.

Many parents think that some children blink frequently and this is a bad habit that their children have developed and do not pay much attention to it. Little do people know that there may be other reasons why children blink.

(1) Inflammatory eye diseases: mainly caused by ocular surface diseases, such as conjunctivitis, punctate keratitis, trichiasis, etc. It should be noted that allergic conjunctivitis is more common in children in spring and summer and is the main cause of blinking among inflammatory eye diseases. This type of children accounts for about 15% of blinking.

(2) Dry eyes: This type of children accounts for the majority of blinking, about 70%. During the summer vacation, children watch TV, use computers, play mobile games, and watch movies on MP4, which leads to excessive eye strain. Therefore, parents must help their children develop good eye habits, which is the key to treating blinking.

(3) Eye fatigue blinking: including visual fatigue, such as refractive errors, especially uncorrected hyperopia, myopia, and astigmatism, which cause visual fatigue of the eyes. Therefore, most children who blink need to have their eyes tested to find out the cause.

(4) Habitual blinking: Some children have a history of frequent blinking due to one of the above causes. After treatment, even after the cause is eliminated, they still retain the habit of frequent blinking.

(5) Transient tic disorder: This condition may occur in school-age children, which is related to stimulation and stress. Sometimes the symptoms disappear when the child changes the environment. Some children may become sicker and curse, use foul language, and become irritable. They should go to the hospital for treatment in time.

The above are the reasons for frequent blinking. You can take a closer look at them. Friends who have not suffered from it should take active prevention measures and pay attention to the following precautions. Some children like to imitate others. When they see others blinking frequently, they learn to do so. As a result, frequent blinking becomes a habit. Parents should remind them in time to help their children control themselves.
