What should I do if my newborn chokes on milk due to pneumonia?

How should pneumonia be treated? How should neonatal pneumonia be treated? What should we pay attention to during children's health care? What are the details we need to pay attention to? Many babies are relatively light when they are born full-term, and may later develop pneumonia. After they are cured and return home, they always have symptoms of choking on milk. So what exactly causes this?

The infection route and clinical manifestations of neonatal pneumonia are different from those of pneumonia in older children. Neonatal pneumonia may be caused by the mother's illness before delivery, and the pathogens invade the fetal blood circulation through the placenta and cause infection; it can also be caused by inhalation of contaminated amniotic fluid during premature rupture of the amniotic membrane or fetal asphyxia. Postnatal infection is mostly caused by improper care, cold, cross-infection, etc. Its etiology is mainly bacterial and viral infections. Neonatal pneumonia may not have obvious respiratory diseases, but only manifests as poor general condition, poor response, weak crying, refusal to feed, choking on milk and foaming at the mouth. Some have fever, some do not. Some children have white root and tip of the nose, flaring nostrils, shallow and irregular breathing. Their condition changes rapidly and they are prone to respiratory failure and heart failure, which are life-threatening.

Therefore, once parents find that their newborns have the above symptoms, they should think of the possibility of pneumonia and take their children to the hospital immediately. Once the diagnosis is confirmed, effective antibiotics should be selected for treatment according to different pathogens. The key to preventing neonatal pneumonia is to do the following: Breastfeeding is encouraged. Breast milk, especially colostrum, contains a large amount of secretory immunoglobulin A, which can protect the respiratory mucosa from the invasion of pathogens and achieve the purpose of disease prevention.

To prevent intrauterine infection, antibiotics may be considered for prevention if the mother is infected or the newborn is likely to suffer from pneumonia during a difficult delivery.

Environmental Hygiene: Windows in bedrooms should be opened frequently for ventilation. Visits from relatives and friends should be reduced as much as possible. People with infectious diseases such as colds should not come into contact with newborns. Family members who come into contact with newborns should wash their hands carefully to prevent the transmission of pathogens to the newborns and cause illness. At the same time, it is best to bathe the newborn every day to avoid damage to the skin and mucous membranes, keep the umbilical cord clean and dry, and avoid contamination, so as to prevent neonatal pneumonia.

Generally, the symptoms of pneumonia are not very typical, and an X-ray is needed to help with diagnosis and treatment. If the child has symptoms, an X-ray must be taken based on the child's physical constitution. If it is pneumonia, it may take about 10 days of treatment. Choking on milk is definitely related to vomiting.
