Which part of the body should be moxibustioned for children with cough

Children have poor immunity, so they are often infected by the cold virus and develop cold symptoms. Colds are often accompanied by coughs, which can last for a very long time. If a cough is left untreated for a long time, it may lead to pneumonia or bronchitis. When a child coughs, you can give him/her moxibustion. Let’s take a look at which part should be chosen for moxibustion when children have cough?

Fever is a signal that the human immune system is waging war against viruses, bacteria that have invaded the body, or toxins that remain in the body. Because only in a high temperature environment can the invading viruses and bacteria not replicate normally and lose the ability to reproduce in large numbers, so we will not get seriously ill. Having a fever is a good thing in some ways. When you have a fever, it is the best time for the human body to eliminate these invading viruses and bacteria.

When the fever is high (body temperature is above 39°C), the internal environment of the human body becomes unbalanced and the organs become dysfunctional. Children, in particular, have an underdeveloped nervous system and are prone to convulsions, which require emergency treatment.

Therefore, most parents become extremely nervous when they see their children have a fever, and immediately send them to the hospital for injections, medicines, or infusions to reduce the fever. In fact, it does not solve the problem, but artificially interrupts our body's automatic detoxification process. Of course, when life is in danger, first aid measures should be taken.

So fever is actually a signal that the human immune system is eliminating harmful substances. Parents, please know that fever-reducing injections should not be given randomly!

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that Dazhui is the meeting point of the Du meridian and the three yang meridians of the hand and the three yang meridians of the foot. In other words, stimulating the Dazhui point can stimulate almost all the yang meridians in the body. The ancients believed that Dazhui point is a "pure yang" point that controls the exterior and is effective for all exterior symptoms. The so-called external symptoms refer to pathogenic factors that are on the surface of the body and have not yet entered the interior and are currently "struggling" with the Qi and blood of the Yang meridians. Symptoms such as chills and fever are typical external symptoms.

1. Dazhui Point

Dazhui point is the "meeting point of all Yang" and has the function of commanding and stimulating the Yang meridians throughout the body. Since it is the eldest, it must have the function of harmonizing Yang Qi. It can replenish Yang Qi, and it can also release Qi. Moxibustion it for reducing fever is most suitable.

Moxibustion method: Hold the moxa stick and perform gentle moxibustion. For children under 2 years old, moxibustion each acupoint for about 5 minutes. Use your hands to feel the heat until you feel a warm flush. As age increases, the moxibustion time can be appropriately extended. Adults generally spend about 15 minutes on each acupoint.

2. Shenzhu Point

Acupuncture points for strengthening children's physical health are believed to cure all children's diseases. Shenzhu point is known in the Japanese medical community as the "moxibustion point for all pediatric diseases."

Moxibustion method: Take Shenzhu point as the starting point and moxibustion up and down along the meridian.

3. Fengmen acupoint

Moxibustion on the Fengmen acupoint can dispel wind and cold. Fengmen is the gateway for wind evil to enter and exit, and it is mainly used to treat wind diseases, hence the name Fengmen. It is one of the most commonly used acupoints for dispelling wind.

4. Feishu Point

The Feishu point is where the lung qi comes out of the back. It is also the point that controls the body's defensive qi on the surface, protecting the body's positive qi from invasion by evil qi.

If the child has a fever of over 40 degrees and is on the rise, I can take a quicker approach, which is to prick the blood at the Shixuan acupoint to reduce the fever:

The Shixuan points are the tips of the ten fingers, and there are 10 of them in total. The Shixuan acupoint has many uses in emergency treatment and is widely used among the people to treat fever, epilepsy, infantile convulsions, etc. In case of high fever, use a three-edged needle to prick and bleed, 3-5 drops of blood is appropriate.
