What should we pay attention to when it comes to children’s foreskin?

Some boys have longer foreskins when they are born. Some parents are very particular about hygiene and are always willing to clean their children. However, this sometimes backfires and makes the child's penis swell up. Parents are very worried. So what should we do if a child has foreskin when he is young? Let me share it with you below, I hope you will be satisfied with my explanation.

When baby boys are born, the head of their penis is covered with foreskin. Parents do not need to over-clean the skin under the baby's foreskin. Sometimes some normal waste does accumulate under the foreskin, but there is no need to worry because the baby can clear it out by himself. In fact, pulling the baby's foreskin up to clean out the accumulated waste can irritate the foreskin and cause local swelling. Sometimes the foreskin becomes noticeably swollen and never returns to its normal position. This condition is called phimosis and requires emergency surgery.

When the baby grows up, the foreskin will naturally turn up, but this is impossible during infancy and will not happen until the baby is 2 to 3 years old at the earliest. By then, the foreskin will be easy to turn up, and it will be very easy to clean the area.

Sometimes, the foreskin opening is too narrow and cannot be turned up, which is medically known as phimosis. Phimosis is normal for young babies. Usually, phimosis will resolve on its own by the time the baby reaches school age. If parents pull back their baby's foreskin too early, it may cause local scarring and permanent phimosis.

There is no need for special care for your baby's phimosis. Just clean the diaper-covered area every time you change your baby's diaper. Do not try to pull up the foreskin to keep the penis clean. The baby's penis head will gradually appear as he grows, and parents just need to adopt a non-interference strategy.

If a child has a long foreskin, it is best not to forcefully clean it, as this will only cause infection or other symptoms. It is best to consult a doctor in the hospital. When the child is able to undergo surgery, it is best to perform a circumcision surgery on the child. Timely treatment is better. If it is not treated for a long time, it will have a certain impact on the child's development.
