Is traditional Chinese medicine effective for children’s colds?

Colds are very common in children and are relatively easy to cure. But this is the biggest headache for many mothers. Because children often catch colds, they will often take medicine, which is naturally bad for their health. Moreover, taking cold medicine frequently will make children less sensitive to cold medicines, which will make it more difficult to treat colds. So many mothers want to use traditional Chinese medicine to improve this situation. Traditional Chinese medicine can also be harmful to the body, so it is recommended to use Chinese patent medicine. Two examples are listed below for your reference.

Symptom 1: Just a common cold, no fever or sore throat

Prescription: Pediatric Jiebiao Granules. Pediatric Jiebiao Granules are composed of honeysuckle, forsythia, dandelion, scutellaria, saposhnikovia, and perilla leaves. They can relieve lung inflammation, clear away heat and detoxify. It is used to treat chills, fever, headache, cough, nasal congestion, runny nose, and sore and itchy throat caused by the early stages of a cold. Take with boiled water, 4 grams each time, twice a day for children aged 1-2 years old; 4 grams each time, three times a day for children aged 3-5 years old; 8 grams each time, 2-3 times a day for children aged 6-14 years old.

Symptom 2: A cold is accompanied by a fever, but it is not severe and there is no sore throat

Prescription: Children's cold granules

Children's cold granules are composed of patchouli, chrysanthemum, forsythia, isatis indigotica, isatis root, rehmannia, lycium bark, iris grandiflora, mint, and gypsum. Its main function is to clear away heat and relieve exterior symptoms, and it is used for children's colds, influenza, and fever. For children under 1 year old, take 6 grams each time; for children under 13 years old, take 6-12 grams each time; for children 4-7 years old, take 12-18 grams each time; for children 8-12 years old, take 24 grams each time.

Generally speaking, the above two methods can successfully treat children's common colds. Of course, if it is a mild cold, you don’t even need to take medicine. Drinking more boiled water, chicken soup or ginger soup will have a certain effect. This will not only not cause any harm to the child's body, but will also replenish the body. It can be said that it kills two birds with one stone, and parents are advised to adopt this method.
