Small testicles in infants

Small testicles in infants

When a baby is just born, the testicles are relatively small. As the baby's body develops, the secondary characteristics of males will slowly begin to appear, and the testicles will also begin to grow. Therefore, there is no need to worry too much about small testicles during infancy, as long as the baby can develop normally during puberty. If puberty development is insufficient, it is generally due to congenital adrenal hyperplasia or testicular hypoplasia.

For infants and children from birth to 1-2 years old, the testicles are in a relatively static development period, generally 1 to 4 ml. After the age of 12, men enter puberty and their testicles increase in size rapidly. By the age of 18, 60-70% of men have reached more than 165 ml. It is recommended that you visit the reproductive infection specialist department of our hospital in a timely manner, conduct relevant examinations under the guidance of a doctor, make a clear diagnosis, and receive timely treatment to avoid delays in the disease.

One is congenital testicular hypoplasia, which is also known as seminiferous tubule dysgenesis. The other is congenital adrenal hyperplasia. In addition to these two common congenital causes, there are also many cases of testicles of different sizes caused by acquired factors.

For example, if one side of the testicle is injured, the mumps virus is also one of the important reasons for causing one testicle to be larger than the other. In addition, some people mistake other lesions in the scrotum for one testicle being larger than the other.

Some people also mistake inguinal oblique hernia, varicocele, epididymal tuberculosis, epididymitis, etc. for testicular enlargement, because these diseases sometimes manifest as one side of the scrotum being larger than the other side. It is recommended to go to the hospital for diagnosis and treatment, identify the cause, and treat it early.

There are many reasons why a baby has small testicles, especially the genetic factors mentioned above, as well as acquired factors, which can cause this situation. As a parent, you should observe your child's every move in time. Once something is wrong, you must pay attention to it and seek medical attention as soon as possible.
