Reasons for spitting up milk in a two-month-old baby

It is very normal for a baby of half a month to spit up milk. It can also be said that it is common for babies to spit up milk. Because the baby is not well developed yet, it is easy for him to spit up milk. As long as you hold the baby upright against your chest, gently pat the baby's back and burp the baby after each feeding, the baby will not spit up milk easily. Let’s take a look at the reasons why babies spit up milk in half a month old.

One reason

Newborn babies may spit up physiologically. It manifests as milk flowing out of the corners of the mouth through the esophagus. It can happen once to several times a day, usually after feeding or burping, and sometimes 1 or 2 hours after feeding. This is a physiological phenomenon, not pathological. It is related to the baby's stomach structure. His stomach is horizontal, the muscles at the entrance of the stomach are relatively relaxed, and the muscles at the exit of the stomach are relatively tight. When the abdominal pressure increases or the body position changes, it is easy for milk to overflow from the mouth. It is more common in babies aged 1-3 months. The peak period of milk overflow is around 3 months, and it will gradually disappear after 7-8 months. If your baby's appetite and spirit are still good after spitting up milk, you don't need to worry, just pay attention to your usual care.

Second measure

1. Hold the baby up at a 45° angle when feeding. If feeding with milk, lift the bottle slightly to allow the milk to fill the nipple and avoid sucking in too much air.

2. After feeding, do not let the baby lie down immediately. Hold the baby upright and let the head rest on the adult's shoulder. The adult holds the baby's head and neck with one hand and pats the baby's back from bottom to top with the other hand to expel the air inhaled. This action can be continued for about 5-15 minutes. When lying down, do not lie flat immediately. Lie on the right side with the head slightly raised. This will allow the milk to flow smoothly to the duodenum and avoid choking. Change the position after half an hour.

3. (For babies under 3 months old who cannot use pillows, the entire upper body can be slightly raised) Do not move or tease the baby too much after feeding to avoid spilling or spitting up milk, and do not change the baby's diaper immediately.

4. The size of the nipple hole must be appropriate, with 60-65 drops per minute continuously. (When the bottle is turned upside down, the milk will first flow out in a line and then drip slowly).

Healthy children have active gastrointestinal motility, so they are prone to vomiting. No matter what method they use, vomiting is not easy to stop. 1 to 2 months is the most serious period of spitting up. It will be very mild at 3 months and will not occur at 4 months. Spitting up usually occurs half a month after the baby is born, and occasionally occurs 2 months after birth. So mothers must take good care of their babies.
