What should I do if my baby has red spots all over his body?

Nowadays, every family has only one child, and many children's parents are older, so everyone will pay special attention to their babies and will not allow them to have any pain or discomfort. Therefore, when the baby has red spots all over the body, the family members will be particularly anxious and don’t know what to do, especially for those who have a baby for the first time and there are no elderly people at home to help take care of the child. Such problems will cause them a lot of trouble.

Babies should be checked by a doctor as soon as they develop a rash, because some rashes are accompanied by fever while others are not. Rash with fever, serious diseases such as scarlet fever (requires hospitalization at a specific hospital), measles, acute febrile mucocutaneous and lymphadenopathy syndrome (Kawasaki disease), etc. The most common rash without fever is eczema, which is beyond the reach of laymen in terms of treatment.

1) Rash with fever

Measles is a rash with a fever. It is a serious illness for children. There are several other similar rash diseases.

The rash of measles is very complex in shape. It is red at first, sometimes purple, and gradually turns brown. This kind of rash can also appear in roseola infantum and rubella. We will talk about how to distinguish these diseases later. Scarlet fever is also a rash-causing disease and, like measles, can be a terrible disease for infants.

The rash of measles is complex in shape, while the rash of scarlet fever is simple and small. A considerable amount of healthy skin can be seen between the measles rashes, but the scarlet fever rashes are so concentrated that at first glance, no healthy skin can be seen, making it feel as if the rashes were painted with red ink.

(ii) Measles

It has been present for 2-3 days before the rash appears38. The fever is around C. When you just feel the fever is subsiding, a rash appears and the fever rises again. This is measles.

Children with measles will develop symptoms such as runny nose and cough from the time of the first fever, which is a severe catarrhal condition (inflammation of the surface of the mucous membrane). If the time of infection is not known, it is difficult to diagnose before the rash appears (the incubation period is about 11 days).

If small white spots (Fecko's spots) appear on the cheek mucosa 2 or 3 days after the onset of spontaneous fever, this is an important basis for the doctor's diagnosis.

The measles rash starts from the neck below the ear and spreads to the whole body. When the rash appears, there are often bloodshot eyes and runny nose, which makes people feel that the child's face is not clean.

The fever of measles usually begins to subside after 5 to 6 days, and the rash gradually disappears, leaving dark brown spots and bran-like peeling.

Now that we have placental globulin, terrible complications such as bronchitis and pneumonia can be prevented and treated with antibiotics, so measles is not so scary anymore.

However, for infants and young children aged 6 months to 2 years old whose maternal immunity has disappeared and who do not yet have resistance to the disease, it is best to prevent them from getting measles (infants will not get measles before they are 4 months old because they have immunity). In addition, children with heart disease and malnourished children should also avoid measles.

There is a measles vaccine to prevent measles. If a measles epidemic suddenly occurs, injection of placental globulin can achieve good preventive effects. In addition, measles is contagious 4 days before the rash appears, so when measles is prevalent around you, you should consider the infectious characteristics of measles and take appropriate countermeasures to be effective.

If you have measles, you must of course receive medical treatment. According to the old custom, too much emphasis is placed on not letting the child catch cold. Over-warming a child who is already suffering from a fever is not effective. As long as the temperature is appropriate and the child feels comfortable, it is enough.

It is okay to use an ice pillow as long as you don't get your body cold.

For measles patients, if they are babies, just feed them milk according to their appetite. During the fever, the child's appetite will be extremely reduced. Adults like to feed their children porridge, pickled plums and other foods, but fighting the disease requires adequate nutrition. We know that vitamin A deficiency is particularly likely to occur during measles. For infants and young children who are starting to eat weaning foods, as long as their appetite permits, they can be given some easily digestible foods that children like.

When babies get measles, the condition is generally serious, but once they have measles, they will be immune for life. For healthy children over one year old who do not have tuberculosis and only get measles, it is not a big deal, but if they get preventive vaccinations in advance, they will not have the trouble of getting measles.

Diseases that are easily mistaken for measles include German measles and roseola infantum. These rashes will cause fever as well as the rash of measles, but the fever will be lower and there will be less coughing and sneezing. If the rash is light red in color and is relatively small in number, it is German measles.

Parents should still pay attention to red spots on their baby's body. Babies are too young and have no resistance, so they can easily get sick. So once you see your baby with red spots all over his body, you must see a doctor as soon as possible and check if the baby has other symptoms. Never give your baby medicine at will according to your own ideas, and don't use some folk remedies, as this will make the baby's condition worse.
