Causes of knee pain in children

We know that knees are of great significance to the human body. Therefore, we recommend that our readers pay attention to protecting their knees in daily life. Below we will introduce to you the reasons for children's knee pain.

1. Transient hip periostitis

Its symptoms are sudden leg pain, sudden inability to walk or stand after getting up in the morning, no clear history of trauma in the child, and sometimes fever and other symptoms. Doctors can find limited hip joint movement during examination, X-ray examination of the hip joint is normal, and a few children have swollen hip joints. This disease can be treated with hot compresses, bed rest for 1-2 weeks, and oral taurine and vitamin B1.

2. Tuberculous hip arthritis

This disease is more common in preschool children, has a slow onset, and is more common on one side. In the early stage of the disease, the affected limbs are sore, so the child's gait changes when walking, and the pain gradually worsens, especially when the child is awakened by pain during sleep at night. This is the main feature of this disease.

3. Femoral head necrosis

The disease has a slow onset, with more severe pain and gradual lameness. There is often trauma a few weeks before the onset of the disease. The AP X-ray of the hip joint can show that the femoral head becomes smaller. This disease requires timely treatment. Delay may cause disability after hip dislocation.

4. Osteochondritis

This is a sterile local ischemic nutritional disorder of osteochondronecrosis that often occurs in the groin of children. This disease is more common in boys and is believed to be related to local injury caused by excessive activity. Most children have unilateral lesions, with pain that gradually worsens and limited abduction of the affected limb. Movement can aggravate the pain and the patient often suffers from limping.

5. Osteoarthritis of the wrist

If there is redness, swelling, or fever in the joints, a routine blood test can help confirm the diagnosis.

6. Bone tumors

Symptoms include persistent pain in bones and joints, accompanied by lameness and swelling. If there is pain when tapping the lower limb joints, further examination should be done to confirm the diagnosis.

7. Rheumatic or rheumatoid arthritis

The symptoms are migratory pain in the joints of the limbs, and the diagnosis can be confirmed by checking the erythrocyte sedimentation rate, anti-chain "O", rheumatoid factor, etc.

8. If a child has leg pain, pay attention to whether it is X-shaped legs or O-shaped legs

If the child has both knees knocked out (X-shaped legs) or knocked in (O-shaped legs), the deformity may cause fatigue leg pain, and the X-shaped legs or O-shaped legs should be corrected in time.
