Baby is sleepy after fever

The symptom of a baby's fever may cause drowsiness. The main reason is that fever will cause our body's resistance to decrease, and then the appetite will decrease and the metabolism will slow down, which will lead to drowsiness. Therefore, it is recommended that you understand the cause of drowsiness caused by a baby's fever. If the baby is drowsy due to fever, we should reduce the fever first, and then the drowsiness will disappear automatically.

Is it normal for babies to be sleepy after the fever subsides?

1. After all, the baby is still young and his body is not fully developed, so a fever will consume a lot of energy for the baby. Usually, it takes some time to recover after the fever subsides or the illness recovers. During this period, the baby likes to sleep and has a poor appetite. After about three to five days, the baby will return to his previous state.

2. Because the baby's body temperature regulation center function is unstable and the metabolism is more active, the body temperature is slightly higher than that of adults. Body temperature also fluctuates during the day. It is lower when you are resting and higher when you are active. The lowest body temperature is between 2 and 6 in the morning and the highest between 2 and 8 in the afternoon, with a fluctuation range of about 0.6°C. Therefore, the baby's body temperature sometimes changes with the surrounding temperature. As long as the baby is in good spirits and does not cry for unexplained reasons, there is no need to worry too much.

How to reduce fever in babies

1. Wipe with warm water or take a warm bath. Use a warm and wet towel to wipe the child's head, armpits, limbs or take a warm bath. Scrub the skin more to promote heat dissipation. Apply cold and wet compress on the head. Soak a soft towel in 20℃-30℃ cold water, squeeze it slightly to prevent dripping, fold it and place it on the forehead. Change it every 3-5 minutes.

2. Ice compress: You can use a small amount of ice compress appropriately, and apply ice or cold compress on the baby's forehead, both sides of the neck, armpits, groin and other large blood vessels. But be sure to wrap a layer of cloth around the ice bag to prevent local frostbite on the baby's skin, and babies under 6 months old should not be given ice compresses.

After the baby's fever subsides, he likes to sleep only to recover the energy lost in fighting the disease. It may also be because the pharmacological effect has not yet worn off. Cold and fever medicines contain some drugs that help sleep. As long as the medicine is stopped for a period of time, the baby will naturally return to its previous state. Parents can rest assured.
