Nursing after hernia surgery for children

As long as there is surgery, there will definitely be wounds, so the most basic thing is to protect the wound, especially for younger children. Be sure not to scratch the wound, do not let urine or water soak the wound, try to let the child sleep on his side so that the wound will not be stained by urine. Do not let the baby cry, and try to get more sleep.

1. Pay attention to protecting the wound, especially for infants and young children. Do not let children pull off the gauze covering the wound; do not contaminate the wound by dirtying the gauze with urine or feces, causing wound infection and suppuration.

2. Let the child sleep on his side and use a soft cotton diaper folded into a long strip to clamp it on the perineum. If the surgery is performed on the right side, the child should be placed in the left side position. Once he urinates, it will not be on the gauze and contaminate the wound. If a diaper is necessary, the gauze on the wound should be exposed outside the diaper.

3. The scrotum may have varying degrees of swelling after the operation, which will generally subside in 2 to 3 days. If the swelling does not subside and becomes hard, there may be blood stasis, and you should ask a doctor to check. If the swelling and hardening no longer develop, the blood stasis will slowly be absorbed.

4. After the effect of the postoperative anesthetic wears off, the wound will have varying degrees of pain. You should coax the child more or divert his attention, and try to avoid crying and making a fuss. If the crying does not stop, you can inject or take oral sedatives to let the child sleep quietly.

Warm reminder: after undergoing hernia surgery, children must pay attention and rest in bed more. They cannot move their bodies randomly. Even if they feel pain, they should choose to divert their attention and try not to touch the wound. In order to ensure the safety and reliability of the operation, children cannot eat anything within six hours after the operation, including water and dairy products. Usually, the wound will heal within a week after the operation, but they still cannot take a bath. Parents can use a wet towel to help the child wipe the body, but avoid the wound.
