Reasons for baby's loose yellow stools

For experienced parents, if they encounter the situation of their baby having loose yellow stools, they generally know how to solve it. But I think many parents don’t know the reason. Only by knowing the reason why the baby has loose and yellow stools can we prescribe the right remedy. If it is a problem of improper diet, we should adjust the diet. If it is due to cold, we should pay attention to keeping the baby warm. In a nutshell, we need to analyze specific reasons specifically.

Different diets may cause different stools. Before adding complementary foods, the stools of breastfed babies are yellow or golden yellow, pasty, sometimes slightly watery or green, with a slightly sour taste, and they defecate 3-4 times a day. There are many normal parasitic bacteria in the baby's intestines, such as Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium, etc. They help break down food in the intestines, promote absorption, and create an acidic environment in the intestines. Intestinal pathogenic bacteria are most afraid of acidity and it is difficult for them to survive and cause disease in the intestines. After adding complementary foods, the frequency of bowel movements decreased to 1-2 times a day.

The stool is watery, foamy, and tastes sour and pungent like rotten food. This may be caused by indigestion of sugars. Adjust your diet: add less sugar to milk, or stop consuming dairy products, replace rice soup and light soy milk with glucose for flavoring.

The stool is brown and ball-shaped, difficult to pass, and even has blood around it. This is because the hard stool has damaged the anus. Adjust the diet: drink more water, feed some vegetable soup, carrot puree, seaweed soup, apple puree, radish juice, cucumber juice, etc. Babies over 1 year old can be given honey water to drink. Different treatments for abnormal stools: If your baby eats green leafy vegetables, his stools will be light green. After eating tomatoes or watermelons, the stool may be slightly red. This is a normal metabolic phenomenon and parents do not need to worry. If the frequency of bowel movements is significantly increased, or the stool contains pus, blood, and a lot of mucus, it is mostly an intestinal disease. At this time, adjusting the diet is ineffective and the baby should be taken to the hospital for diagnosis and treatment.

There are many reasons why babies have loose yellow stools, but the most important one is usually improper diet. So while breastfeeding, you can appropriately add some foods that improve your baby's bowel movements to help your baby's bowel movements return to normal. In this way, the baby's body functions can quickly recover to their best condition, allowing the baby to grow healthily.
