Causes of delayed language development in children

Causes of delayed language development in children

We all know that each child has a different level of development, so the symptoms and manifestations will also be different. Some one- or two-year-old children may not be able to complete vocalization. In fact, these are all related to our daily guidance. We need to guide children's language development appropriately, and find out the causes of language delays in a timely manner.

Language development starts later in life

Generally, babies start talking at around one year old, calling "Dad, Mom", but babies with delayed language development may not start talking until they are two or three years old. Indeed, since language learning requires better attention, and some lively and active children find it difficult to pay attention to one thing for a long time, the time they start "talking" is relatively late. There is also a common saying among the people: If a child learns to walk first, it will be late for him to talk; and if he learns to talk first, it will be late for him to learn to walk. Therefore, every baby's development is different. After delivery, the mother should not be too anxious, and let the baby develop slowly. The baby's slow language development is related to the languages he is exposed to.

When I saw other babies of the same age talking a lot, while my baby Doudou was still only at the stage of talking to his dad and mom, I analyzed the reasons why my baby spoke slowly. Doudou is usually taken care of by his grandmother, who speaks his hometown dialect. On weekends, he is taken care of by his parents, who speak Mandarin. During early childhood education, the teacher speaks English. In this case, the baby is exposed to too many types of languages, and he doesn't know what kind of words he should choose, so his language development is slow.

Children should choose appropriate languages to learn in their daily lives. We should also be critical in selecting languages. If children are exposed to too many languages at one time, their brains will not be able to adapt, which may affect their language development over time. Therefore, children’s language development is related to our daily guidance.
