What are the key points of postpartum baby care

A few days after the baby is born, it is time to observe the confinement period. Of course, it is the mother who does the confinement period, but during this month, there are many things to pay attention to for the baby, whether in terms of living habits, the mother has to pay attention to the baby's diet, the baby's skin, and the baby's sleeping status. Many mothers have no experience, so let us introduce the key points of confinement baby care below.

1. Clean your mouth

When the fetus is delivered, the mucus and amniotic fluid in the oropharynx should be cleared quickly to avoid aspiration and aspiration pneumonia, but do not scrub the mouth because the oral mucosa of the newborn is thin and tender and easily damaged. If "thrush" occurs - a white film with spots or flakes appears on the oral mucosa, you can gently apply nystatin solution.

2. Insulation

Immediately after birth, the newborn's entire body should be gently dried and wrapped in a clean, warm cotton blanket. The room temperature cannot be lower than 23℃. The body temperature of the newborn should be maintained at 36-37℃. Measure the baby's temperature every 4 hours on the first day after birth. When the temperature stabilizes at around 36.5℃, it can be changed to every 6 to 12 hours thereafter. If the body temperature is lower than 36℃ or higher than 38℃, the cause should be found and treated.

3. Body Position

Except when the mother holds the baby for feeding, the newborn baby stays in bed all day. Sufficient sleep time should be ensured, more than 20 hours a day. It is best to lie on your side, especially after feeding, and usually lie on your left side. Changing your body position frequently can prevent your head from tilting when sleeping. Lying on your back is not safe, as this position can cause suffocation if you have milk stagnation. You don't need to use a pillow. If you do, the height of the pillow should be roughly the same as the width of your shoulders. Don't use a hard pillow to correct your head shape.

4. Pay attention to the living environment

When living in an environment, we should pay special attention to two factors: the first is ventilation. The living environment of a newborn requires proper ventilation, while avoiding the through-drafts that occur in traditional houses facing south and north. The second is the noise factor. Pay attention to isolating high-decibel and harsh noises to avoid causing damage to the baby's auditory organs.

5. Pay attention to hot and cold care

Because newborns have poor temperature regulation function, they need to keep warm in winter and prevent heatstroke in summer. They also need to add or remove clothes in time according to changes in temperature.

The above are the various key points that need to be paid attention to during the baby's confinement period, including the surrounding environment, as well as the temperature, which must provide the baby with a relatively comfortable state so that the baby will not get sick. What is easily overlooked is that the baby's mouth must be cleaned, because diseases enter from the mouth, so some bacteria are caused by some carelessness in daily life.
