What to do if the newborn has edema on the head

There are frequent diseases at different age stages. For example, for newborns, common diseases include jaundice and edema. Many parents are always worried about their baby's abnormal development. The body structure of a newborn is different from that of an adult. Here, we still recommend that you go to the hospital in time for treatment. Let us understand together what to do if the newborn has head edema.

This is because the baby's head is squeezed when passing through the birth canal during delivery. The small blood vessels under the periosteum of the skull at the top of the head that passes through the birth canal are damaged and ruptured, causing bleeding, forming a localized hematoma under the periosteum. Generally, the bleeding from small blood vessels will stop naturally and will not continue. The bump on the top of the head caused by a cranial hematoma will slowly disappear after the blood in the hematoma is gradually absorbed, but it will take about several months to shrink and flatten out.

1. In the early stage of hematoma, local cold compress can be applied to prevent the hematoma from growing;

2. Patients with large hematomas should undergo X-ray examination to find out whether there is skull injury, and blood should be drawn to test coagulation function. If abnormalities are found, appropriate treatment should be given promptly;

3. Allow the hematoma of the head to be absorbed naturally. Do not rub the hematoma. Do not draw blood from the hematoma to prevent infection. If infection occurs and abscesses are formed, they should be incised and drained in time.

4. Children with hematoma should be moved less frequently and lie on their healthy side.

The above four methods are the solutions to newborn head edema. There are many reasons for edema. It may be squeezed and bleeding symptoms appear. This condition is more serious and must be treated in the hospital. In addition, it may be affected by the external environment and cause edema. After being confirmed in the hospital, if there are no special circumstances, you can use hot compresses at home to eliminate edema.
