Reasons why babies have snoring throats

Some mothers have noticed that their babies make gurgling sounds in their throats while sleeping, which is clearly a sign of phlegm in the throat. Many parents are very worried about their babies having such conditions. So why do our babies have gurgling sounds in their throats? Today, I will explain to parents why babies make snoring sounds in their throats.

The reason for snoring in the throat is related to the incomplete development of the baby's oral, nasopharyngeal junction and epiglottis. This situation mostly occurs in babies around 3 months old, and is more common in obese babies who are fed with starch as the staple food.

The production of phlegm is mostly caused by infection. When you hear phlegm in your baby's breathing, you can determine the location of the phlegm, which is in the throat. The nose or throat should be carefully cleared; if there is secretion in the trachea or lungs, regular expectoration is required. It is recommended that the baby drink some white sugar syrup, which is quite effective.

Under normal circumstances, there will always be some secretions in the baby's mouth. For such a young baby, the swallowing function is not fully developed. If oral secretions flow into the trachea, the larynx will make snoring sounds. Because this secretion is not caused by infection or inflammation, anti-inflammatory, antitussive, and expectorant drugs are ineffective. The snoring sound in the baby's larynx will be reduced or disappear as the baby grows older and the function of the oral, nasopharyngeal junction and epiglottis gradually matures.

In addition to the possibility that the baby's throat makes a gurgling sound due to phlegm in the mouth, you should also rule out the possibility that the baby has some disease in the throat that causes the baby to make a gurgling sound. Therefore, for parents who cannot accurately determine whether their baby has phlegm in the throat, it is best to take the baby to a regular hospital for an examination in time.
