Introduction to angular cheilitis in children

Angular cheilitis in children is relatively common in our lives, mainly because children’s immunity is relatively weak, and mother’s milk contains a lot of hot substances that can also cause angular cheilitis in children. For angular cheilitis, we must treat it as soon as possible. There are many reasons that cause this kind of angular cheilitis, but no matter what the reason is, we must treat it as soon as possible.

What are the symptoms of angular cheilitis?

In winter and spring, we often see some children developing small blisters on the corners of their mouths, with bleeding, erosion, and scabs. This is medically known as "angular cheilitis." In autumn and winter, some children have dry lips and corners of mouth, and are prone to flushing and blisters at the corners of mouth, as well as milky white erosions, cracks, and scabs, often accompanied by burning and pain. It is easy to cause bleeding when opening the mouth, which brings a lot of inconvenience to eating and talking. People are accustomed to calling it "rotten mouth".

How to treat angular cheilitis in babies

Once a child has angular cheilitis, parents do not need to be overly nervous. People often mix 20 grams of borax powder and honey and apply it evenly to the affected area; or use cooked rice soup to wash the corners of your mouth 3 times a day, which are both effective. People with dry throat and lips can use 30 grams of Tremella fuciformis, 15 grams each of Imperata root and Ophiopogon japonicus, decoct in water and drink as tea. You can also use the oil in vitamin E capsules to apply on the lips and corners of the mouth. However, it is best to distinguish different causes and treat them. For example, if it is caused by riboflavin deficiency, you can first apply some anti-infection drugs to the corners of the mouth, and take vitamins B2 and C at the same time. You can also use light salt water to clean the affected corners of the mouth, remove the scab, and after drying, apply the pre-ground vitamin B2 into powder to the corners of the mouth. Apply once a day in the morning, noon, dinner and before going to bed. It usually heals in three to five days.

How to prevent angular cheilitis in children

To prevent angular cheilitis in children, we must first start with dietary adjustment. In autumn and winter, there are fewer fresh vegetables than in summer. Some children are partial and picky eaters, which can easily lead to insufficient intake of riboflavin in the body. Riboflavin, also known as vitamin B2, is one of the important substances that promote redox in human cells. If the human body lacks riboflavin, it will affect the process of biological oxidation in the body and cause metabolic disorders, resulting in angular cheilitis, cheilitis, glossitis, dry mucous membranes and skin, etc. Because the human body cannot synthesize riboflavin, children should be educated not to be picky or partial eaters.

Pay attention to dietary balance on daily basis. On the basis of meat and vegetables, you can give your children more foods rich in riboflavin, such as animal offal, eggs, dairy products, soybeans, carrots, green leafy vegetables, etc. Try to make the cooking methods reasonable. For example, do not wash rice too many times, wash vegetables before cutting, and do not soak them in water after cutting. Try not to add alkali when making rice porridge or cooking beans.

The above is a detailed introduction to the manifestations and treatments of angular cheilitis in children. We all know that children are most likely to suffer from this type of angular cheilitis in winter and spring. If our baby has angular cheilitis, our parents don’t have to worry too much. Just receive treatment and he will recover immediately.
