What are the dangers of eating MSG for children?

Children are very demanding about food because they are in the stage of growth and development. If they eat unfavorable food, it may cause discomfort to their bodies. Therefore, parents must strictly control the food of their children. It is not recommended for children to go to Beijing, because the chemical elements in MSG can cause certain damage to the human body and affect health. So, what are the dangers of eating MSG for children?

1. Babies can eat a small amount after one year old, but it is best to eat it after three years old

MSG has an adverse effect on the growth and development of infants. The main ingredient of MSG, "sodium glutamate", can specifically combine with the zinc in the blood of young children to produce zinc glutamate that cannot be absorbed by the body and is excreted from the body with urine, causing zinc deficiency in infants, making the baby's taste worse, anorexia, intellectual impairment, and growth retardation. Especially for children under one year old, the harm is greater. Therefore, babies can eat a small amount of MSG after one year old, but it is recommended to eat MSG after three years old.

2. The amount of MSG that babies should eat

The Chinese Nutrition Society recommends that babies under 4 years old should not consume more than 700 mg of sodium per day (equivalent to 1.8 g of table salt). Considering that other foods in our daily diet, including meat, eggs, milk, beans and bean products, vegetables such as radish and cabbage, are rich in sodium, the total amount of additional sodium-containing condiments including salt and MSG should not exceed 1g per day.

3. Is MSG harmful to the human body?

MSG is not harmful

After many experimental studies, various organizations, including the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (1959), the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization and the World Health Organization (1987), and the European Union Food Science Committee (1991), have classified MSG as safe in food.

In other words: there is no evidence that MSG is harmful to human health. Therefore, adults can eat MSG in daily life.
