How to relieve fever caused by viral cold in children

How to relieve fever caused by viral cold in children

Newborns have relatively poor immunity and are very susceptible to viral colds. Viral colds can easily cause fever and tonsillitis, leading to symptoms such as coughing, convulsions, and loss of appetite in children. Parents must be worried when seeing their beloved children suffering. In addition to seeking medical treatment and taking medicine, there are actually ways to promptly relieve the pain caused by viral colds and fever in children. Let’s take a look at what methods there are.

1. Sponge bath

Sponging for 10 to 15 minutes at a time can help a child with a fever recover faster. Just place your child in a tub of warm water and sponge his arms, thighs and body. The evaporation of water will cool the little body and help lower the body temperature. Do not use cold water, as it will only make your child shiver and tremble, which will increase his body temperature. Also, do not use a sponge dipped in alcohol to wipe your child's body. The smell of alcohol will overly irritate a child who is already sick.

2. Light and breathable clothes

Wrapping your child in heavy clothing will only make the condition worse. Children should be dressed in light, soft clothing to allow body heat to dissipate through the skin. When your child sleeps, just cover him or her with a thin, soft blanket or sheet.

3. Cool Room

The child's room should be kept cool and ventilated. A fan can be used for ventilation so that the child can dissipate body heat through the skin, but it should not be too cold, so that the child feels comfortable.

4. Drink plenty of fluids

Children with a fever breathe quickly and briefly, and lose a lot of body water through evaporation of water vapor from their mouths. To prevent dehydration, your child must continue to drink cool water or drinks (not too hot or too cold) rather than gulping down large amounts of fluids all at once. Since children with fever have poor appetite, you can prepare some nutritious chicken soup, bone soup, fruit, etc. for them.

The four methods mentioned above can effectively relieve the discomfort caused by viral colds and fever to children. Sometimes good care methods are more important than taking medicine. In addition, parents should make sure their children exercise more and drink more water to enhance their ability to resist disease.
