Treatment of pneumonia in children

Treatment of pneumonia in children

We all know that infants and young children are the main group susceptible to pneumonia. The main cause of death is that infants and young children have poor immunity and are unable to prevent the growth of bacteria or viruses. For a disease like childhood pneumonia, we should choose the method of treating it based on its symptoms. For example, if you have a cough and phlegm, you can use drugs such as compound licorice mixture and ipecac syrup for treatment.

1. Symptomatic treatment

People who have cough and phlegm should not abuse cough suppressants, because suppressing cough will not help to expel phlegm. To prevent sputum from blocking the bronchi, expectorants such as compound licorice mixture, 10% ammonium chloride solution, ipecac syrup, and diquat syrup can be used.

If the sputum is thick, 5 mg of n-chymotrypsin plus 15-20 ml of normal saline can be used for ultrasonic nebulization inhalation, or Houttuynia cordata nebulization inhalation can be used. For those whose dry cough affects their sleep and diet, they can take 0.5% codeine syrup, 0.1 ml/kg each time, 1 to 3 times a day. This drug can suppress the cough reflex and also suppress breathing, so it should not be abused or used in excessive amounts. Dextromethorphan (dextromethorphan) 0.3 mg/kg each time, 3 to 4 times a day, has an antitussive effect but does not inhibit breathing.

2. Treatment of respiratory failure.

3. Treatment of toxic encephalopathy

The main purpose is to correct hypoxia. In addition, 20% mannitol can be quickly dripped intravenously, 1g/kg each time. Depending on the condition, it can be dripped intravenously 4 times a day, generally not more than 3 days. If necessary, add dexamethasone, 2-5 mg per day, divided into 2 intravenous drips. Diuretics, hibernation spirits and energy mixtures can also be added.

4. Treatment of toxic intestinal paralysis

It mainly improves intestinal microcirculation and promotes intestinal peristalsis. Phentolamine is commonly used or alamin is added. The dose of alamin is half the dose of the above-mentioned phentolamine. The two drugs are dissolved in 5-10 ml of 10% glucose and slowly injected intravenously. They can also be dissolved in 20-30 ml of 10% glucose and injected intravenously. If necessary, it can be reused after 30 minutes to 1 hour, 3 to 4 times a day. You can also use neostigmine or anal gas to relieve abdominal distension and facilitate breathing. When children who are unable to eat for a long time, suffer from dehydration and acidosis, or are taking hormones and diuretics experience abdominal distension, they should pay attention to potassium supplementation.

5. Application of adrenal cortex hormone

In cases of high fever, obvious symptoms of poisoning, toxic shock, toxic encephalopathy, toxic myocarditis, severe wheezing, respiratory failure and pleural effusion, hormone treatment can be added while using adequate antibiotics. Hydrocortisone is commonly used, 4 to 8 mg/kg per day, or dexamethasone (dosage as above) is added to glucose solution and intravenously dripped.

The above mainly introduces the treatment methods of childhood pneumonia. I hope you can understand the treatment methods of childhood pneumonia in your life. Regarding the treatment of pneumonia in young children, we recommend that mothers should listen to the doctor's advice in a timely manner and provide their children with a healthy living environment.
