Causes of cerebral palsy in children

Causes of cerebral palsy in children

There are many causes of cerebral palsy in children in life, including genetic factors or asphyxiation of the fetus in the mother's womb. These factors have a great impact on the brain development of the fetus. If the fetus suffers a brain shock or is born prematurely or has poor development, it may cause cerebral palsy in the child. I hope you can stay away from these situations in your life to reduce your baby's intellectual damage.

Children's brains are relatively fragile. If they are hit by some objects in life, it may cause abnormal brain development in children, resulting in cerebral palsy. Let us now understand the causes of cerebral palsy in children.

1. Hypoxia and asphyxia: including fetal hypoxia and asphyxia in the mother's womb, neonatal hypoxia and asphyxia during delivery, respiratory distress syndrome, systemic circulatory failure, and polycythemia.

2. Brain injury: such as brain injury to the baby during delivery, craniocerebral injury or brain infection, or cerebrovascular accident in the newborn.

3. Premature birth and fetal maldevelopment: fetal intrauterine infection, slow intrauterine growth, and congenital malformations. If the newborn weighs less than 2500 grams, the possibility of cerebral palsy increases greatly (about 40% of children with cerebral palsy weigh less than 2500 grams)

4. Certain genetic diseases and neonatal kernicterus.

5. Causes for pregnant women: including abdominal trauma, threatened abortion, prenatal bleeding, pregnancy toxemia, placental causes (placental abruption, placenta previa, placental necrosis or placental dysfunction), and certain chronic diseases of pregnant women (hypertension, hepatitis, diabetes, drug abuse, drug overdose, etc.).

Trauma during pregnancy - Studies have shown that trauma during pregnancy often occurs in the late pregnancy, and maternal trauma during pregnancy is closely related to the onset of cerebral palsy. In addition, trauma during pregnancy can also cause reduced placental blood flow, placental thrombosis and premature rupture of membranes. Even minor trauma can cause fetal death or premature birth.

Multiple pregnancy - In recent years, the use of ovulation-inducing drugs in the treatment of infertility has significantly increased the rate of multiple pregnancy, and the relationship between multiple pregnancy and cerebral palsy has also gradually attracted the attention of the medical community. The incidence of premature birth and low birth weight in multiple fetuses is significantly higher than that in single fetuses. Experts believe that the reasons may include: multiple pregnancy can easily lead to relatively insufficient placental function; fetal transfusion syndrome can cause fetal anemia, low birth weight, heart failure, etc.; multiple pregnancy is also prone to complications such as polyhydramnios and premature rupture of membranes.

Cardiopulmonary diseases in pregnant women - cardiovascular and respiratory dysfunction can lead to cerebral ischemia in premature infants, such as patent ductus arteriosus, hypotension, pneumothorax, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, respiratory distress syndrome, etc.

In life, we should have a certain understanding of the causes of cerebral palsy in children introduced in the article, which will help us prevent cerebral palsy in children. In our lives, we should pay attention to the causes of cerebral palsy in children, especially for premature babies or babies with developmental disabilities.
