3 major hazards caused by baby powder

Some mothers, after bathing their babies, will apply some talcum powder to their babies in order to make them smell better and prevent them from getting prickly heat. However, experts say that this is not the right way to do it, because if you frequently use talcum powder on your baby, it may be detrimental to the baby's sweat discharge!

May cause lead absorption

The main ingredient of some baby powders is talc, which contains inseparable lead. Once the lead enters the baby's body, it takes a long time to excrete. Long-term use of lead-containing talcum powder will cause lead to accumulate in the human body, thereby harming the nervous, hematopoietic and digestive systems. In severe cases, it will also affect the intelligence and physical development of the baby.

May cause powder absorption

Chemical substances such as magnesium oxide and magnesium sulfate contained in talcum powder can easily invade the respiratory tract of infants and young children. However, the respiratory tract of infants and young children is not fully developed, and even if the amount inhaled is small, it cannot be eliminated by their own functions. However, if infants and young children inhale too much of these powders, they will invade the bronchi and destroy the cilia movement of the trachea, thereby reducing their defense and easily inducing respiratory infections.

Not conducive to the baby's sweat discharge

Talcum powder easily absorbs water, but after absorbing water it will form granular substances, causing redness and erosion of the skin. If talcum powder is applied to the baby's buttocks and wetted with urine, it will block the sweat glands, causing redness due to friction and even a rash.

From the above, it can be seen that if parents use talcum powder on their babies for a long time, it will not only fail to prevent the babies from getting prickly heat, but may cause skin infections in the babies. If used improperly, it may also lead to respiratory diseases, and it will also increase the risk of ovarian cancer in baby girls.

Therefore, experts remind that for the sake of your baby, especially a female baby, it is better not to apply talcum powder to the baby after bathing.
