What to do if your baby has a fever

After ten months of pregnancy, I finally waited for the baby to be born. Newborn babies have very weak resistance to the outside world and need our special care and attention. However, no matter how carefully we take care of our children, sometimes they still get sick. Among the diseases suffered by children, fever is the most common symptom. Whether it is a cold, pharyngitis, mechanical injury, etc., it can cause the baby to have a fever.

Since baby fever is such a common symptom, what should we do when the baby has a fever? In fact, baby fever can be divided into low fever, moderate fever, high fever, and hyperpyrexia. 37.5℃ ~ 38℃ is low fever, 38.1℃ ~ 39℃ is moderate fever, 39.1℃ ~ 40.4℃ is high fever, and above 40.5℃ is hyperpyrexia. Let’s take a brief look at what we should do when our baby has a fever.

If the fever is below 38 degrees, consider taking physical cooling measures, such as wiping the body with warm water or applying ice packs; if the fever is above 38.5 degrees, consider taking medication to reduce the fever, such as Tylenol. After taking the medicine, pay attention to observe your baby's symptoms to see if they persist. After the fever of a common cold subsides, the chance of recurrence is low. Generally, if there is inflammation in the body, fever is prone to recurring, so if symptoms of recurring fever occur, you should seek medical attention as soon as possible.

1. Rest: Children with fever need to rest in bed. The indoor environment should be quiet, with a moderate temperature (18℃~25℃), good ventilation, and the clothes and quilts should not be too thick. If the child sweats a lot, change the clothes in time and wipe with warm water.

2. Drink water: When you have a fever, your breathing speeds up and more water evaporates, so you need to replenish water in time. Drinking more water can also promote more urination, which is beneficial for cooling down and excreting toxins. It is best to drink warm water, which is conducive to sweating.

The diet for children with fever should be based on the principles of providing adequate water, supplementing large amounts of vitamins and inorganic salts, and providing appropriate amounts of calories and protein. The diet should be mainly liquid and semi-liquid

The above is the correct approach we should take when the baby has a fever. Of course, if the baby's fever has reached a fairly high level, or the fever is recurring, then we need to take the baby to the hospital for examination and treatment in time to prevent the fever from becoming more and more serious.
