Why is the baby's head cold and sweating?

Baby sweating is actually a very normal physiological phenomenon. But what’s going on if the baby’s head is cold and sweaty? In fact, this situation is sometimes quite normal. For example, if the weather is cold but the baby exercises a lot, it is very likely that the sweat on the forehead takes away the heat from the forehead. But if the baby sweats for no reason, parents should pay attention.

1. The baby has a high water content

Babies' skin looks moist and tender because they are indeed made of water. The water content in the body of a newborn baby is as high as 85%, while that in an adult is only about 60%. The higher the water content, the easier it is for nature to excrete more sweat, which is in line with the laws of nature.

2. The "sweating suppression" system is not well developed

The human body can regulate its body temperature by sweating, but the nerves that control sweat secretion in infants and young children are not yet fully developed, resulting in the baby's poor ability to self-regulate cold and heat, so they are prone to "sweating profusely".

3. Active metabolism

Babies are in a stage of rapid growth and development, and their metabolism is active. Even when they are quiet or asleep, their metabolism is still going on vigorously. In addition, babies are very active and exercise a lot, so a lot of heat is accumulated in their bodies, and they can only regulate their body temperature by sweating.

In summary, parents do not need to worry too much about physiological sweating. This is just a physiological phenomenon in the baby's growth process. As the baby grows older, this phenomenon will gradually decrease.

In addition to physiological night sweats, if the baby sweats a lot in the second half of the night, it is most likely pathological sweating, which is manifested as obvious sweating on the child's head and "baldness on the back of the head" in the first half of the night after falling asleep.
