What should I do if my child chokes?

People often choke when eating. If an adult chokes accidentally, it is generally not harmful and can be cured by just coughing. However, if a child chokes, the harm will be greater, for example, it may damage the child's lungs. This also reminds parents to take measures to prevent children from choking, and they must master the correct feeding methods. If a child chokes accidentally, how should they respond correctly?

What should I do if my child chokes?

Nowadays, parents are always trying to give their children supplements of this and that, but in practice, they actually ignore a lot of details. Have you ever thought about what to do if your child chokes while eating? Especially for children, their faces will turn red and their mouths will turn purple when they choke, which is very scary. And if the method is not done correctly, it may put the child's life in danger! Well, let me tell you what to do.

When a child chokes while eating, there is a concept of "5 minutes" in the rescue of tracheal foreign body asphyxiation. If it exceeds 5 minutes, it will be difficult to save the baby. Even if the baby is saved, brain damage is likely to have already occurred.

Perhaps in a panic, I believe many parents don’t know how to help their children most effectively and scientifically. Now let me introduce the Heimlich maneuver.

1. For younger babies (under 3 years old), parents can hold the baby's feet with their hands and hang the baby upside down, while patting the baby's back hard; or support the baby's neck with their hands, let the baby lean down on the parent's arm, and pat the baby's back with the other hand.

2. You can also let the baby lie head down on the parent's legs, with the baby's head placed in a lower position, and pat the baby's back 5-6 times with the other hand, and observe whether the foreign body is spit out.

3. If the foreign body is not vomited out, the child can be turned over and lie on the ground or bed. The rescuer kneels or stands at the side of the child's feet, or sits down and lets the child ride on the rescuer's thighs, facing forward. The rescuer places the middle or index fingers of both hands on the child's abdomen below the chest and above the navel, and presses upward quickly but gently, repeating the process until the foreign body is expelled.
