What to do if a two-year-old child has X-shaped legs

A two-year-old baby has X-shaped legs, which is a common leg deformity. If it is not particularly serious, parents should not pay too much attention to it. They should strengthen good maintenance in daily life. If this leg shape is more serious, they must go to the hospital for examination in time. It can be corrected by certain methods, such as splint correction, leg bandage correction, etc. Of course, if it is particularly serious, it can also be treated with surgery.

What to do if a two-year-old child has X-shaped legs

1. The correction methods for O-shaped legs include: surgery, O-shaped correction instruments, splints, leggings, exercise, corrective insoles, etc.

2. Correction methods for X-shaped legs include: surgery, splints, leg wraps, exercise, corrective insoles, etc. Children with rickets must receive formal and systematic rickets treatment; at the same time, care should be taken not to let children learn to walk too early.

3. The surgery is suitable for patients with bony deformities. Through surgical osteotomy + internal fixation correction, the normal limb force line and appearance can be restored immediately.

4. For severe genu valgum (knee valgus) deformity, a new osteotomy + internal fixation correction in the first stage may cause tension and traction on nerves and blood vessels, which may easily lead to related complications. Therefore, osteotomy and correction with the assistance of an external fixator can be used to slowly correct the deformity, avoid neurological and vascular complications, and the surgery is also minimally invasive.

5. The principles of non-surgical correction methods are basically the same. For genu valgum, the medial collateral ligament of the knee joint is relaxed to restore the stable structure of the inner and outer sides of the knee joint, thereby causing the tibia to be turned outward and achieving the correction goal. For genu valgum, the lateral collateral ligament of the knee joint is relaxed to restore the stable structure of the inner and outer sides of the knee joint, thereby causing the tibia to be turned inward and achieving the correction goal.

6. The advantages of non-surgical correction methods are low cost and low risk, while the disadvantages are active treatment, which is slow to take effect and requires long-term persistence. Without perseverance, the purpose of correction cannot be achieved.

How to care for children with X or O-shaped legs?

1. To supplement calcium, you can give your child calcium tablets every day, or you can make more pork bone soup for your child to drink. My child has a calcium-deficient physique, so I give him calcium supplements on a long-term basis, and he will continue to take calcium supplements during his adolescence.

2. Stretch and train your child’s muscles every day. Leg stretching training is quite hard. In the beginning, I always hurt my baby, which made me so heartbroken. Later, I gradually mastered the strength and understood my baby's limits. Muscle training is mainly aimed at the lateral muscles. Train the baby's lateral muscles in an orderly manner, and keep it at about ten times at a time. Remember not to overdo it.

3. There are two types of assistive devices for babies. One is a bracket, which is tied to the lower body. I let my baby wear it for about 2 hours during the day, and use another kind of assistive device to bind the legs when the baby sleeps at night. I often get up to check if the baby is uncomfortable. If so, I won’t wear the baby all night. After all, sleep is also very important.

4. Regular follow-up visits. I will take my baby to the hospital for check-ups every month. If there is anything wrong, the doctor can correct it, so it won’t be delayed too long.

5. Except for very serious deformities that require medical correction, all others can be corrected or compensated through exercise.
