What to do if your child has repeated coughing and wheezing

Many children often cough repeatedly, and the frequency of coughing is relatively high, which will have a great impact on people's physical and mental health, and will affect their normal work, study and sleep. Because coughing is most severe at night, it will turn into cough and asthma over time. If the cough does not get better, it is necessary to consider that the treatment is not thorough, or antiviral antibiotics have been used for a long time. What needs to be given is the simplest and most critical treatment.

What should I do if my child keeps coughing and wheezing?

Induced cough, etc. These diseases are common causes of chronic cough and need to be carefully excluded when diagnosing cough variant asthma.

treat

Although cough variant asthma is usually not life-threatening, it should be diagnosed early and treated actively because it can develop into typical asthma and the disease can seriously affect children's sleep, rest and learning.

Once cough variant asthma is diagnosed, antibiotics or antiviral drugs should be stopped, and care should be taken to avoid contact with allergens. In particular, primary prevention of asthma is implemented for children with cough variant asthma, aiming to promote and enhance Th1 cell response.

The treatment principles for cough variant asthma are the same as those for typical asthma, mainly focusing on eliminating allergic inflammation in the lower respiratory tract, including desensitization therapy, antiallergic drugs, and anti-inflammatory treatment with inhaled corticosteroids. Specific treatment plans such as antiallergic drugs such as levocetirizine, desloratadine, and mast cell stabilizers such as Nedocromil and sodium cromoglycate can also achieve good results, but they often need to be used continuously for more than 2 months.

The dosage of inhaled corticosteroids can refer to the treatment plan for mild persistent asthma. Continuous inhalation is usually required for 5-7 days. After the airway inflammation is controlled, the cough symptoms may gradually decrease or disappear. Inhaled corticosteroids should be continued for at least 3 months to avoid relapse. If the cough is severe, bronchodilators such as inhaled or oral β2 receptor stimulants and/or oral theophylline drugs can be used if necessary to temporarily relieve cough symptoms.

For children who have recurrent attacks after stopping medication, the allergens should be identified in a timely manner, effective preventive measures should be taken, and allergen vaccination treatment should be given if necessary.
