What to do if you don't eat for hand, foot and mouth disease

When babies are sick, they always appear listless, and parents are always worried that the babies cannot take in nutrients, which will cause illness and they will not be able to recover in time. Children with hand, foot and mouth disease generally experience itchy skin and are always scratching their skin with their hands. At this time, parents should educate their children in time and divert the baby's attention through some small games. So, what should you do if you don’t eat due to hand, foot and mouth disease?

1. What should I do if my child with hand, foot and mouth disease refuses to eat?

If the child doesn't want to eat, then let him eat something else. The baby is unwilling to eat because the oral mucosal rash causes pain when chewing. At this time, parents can change the child's staple food, such as liquid food, porridge, milk powder and other foods that do not require chewing. The child will definitely be willing to eat when he is hungry.

1. Replace rice with liquid food. Cause: If the baby has hand, foot and mouth disease, oral mucosal rashes will appear in the mouth. Once these oral mucosal rashes become ulcerated, they will be very painful. The baby refuses to eat because the oral mucosal rash causes pain when chewing. Nursing: Parents can change their children’s staple food, such as liquid food, porridge, milk powder and other foods that do not require chewing. Children will definitely be willing to eat when they are hungry. If you are feeding milk, remember to clean your baby's mouth with water after drinking to prevent food residue on the ulcer surface and affecting the recovery of the disease. You can also drink some heat-clearing soup, or honeysuckle water, etc., which can be rubbed on the body or taken orally.

2. Add a little minced meat to balance the nutrition . Children with hand, foot and mouth disease should not be fed only porridge, as this cannot ensure a balanced nutrition for the child. Instead, some meat can be added to the porridge and cut into minced meat, so that the child can eat it naturally to avoid gastrointestinal "fatigue". In terms of diet, it is important to pay attention to the baby's diet, which should be light and varied, and eat less greasy, hot, and difficult-to-digest food.

2. How to treat hand, foot and mouth disease:

1. General treatment. If there are no complications, the prognosis of this disease is generally good and most patients recover within a week. Mainly for symptomatic treatment. (1) First, isolate the sick child, and those in contact should be disinfected and isolated to avoid cross infection. (2) Provide symptomatic treatment and maintain good oral care. For severe oral herpes and ulcers, gargle or apply Kangfuxin liquid to the affected area. You can also mix Smecta into a paste and apply it to the ulcer surface with a cotton swab after meals. (3) Clothes and bedding should be clean, comfortable, soft, and changed frequently. (4) Cut your baby’s nails short and wrap his or her hands if necessary to prevent the baby from scratching the rash. (5) In the early stages of a rash on the hands and feet, apply calamine lotion. When herpes forms or breaks, apply 0.5% iodine tincture. (6) For babies with rashes on their buttocks, their urine and feces should be cleaned up at all times and their buttocks should be kept clean and dry. (7) You can take antiviral drugs and Chinese herbal medicines that clear heat and detoxify, and supplement vitamins B and C.

2. Antiviral drugs . Because antiviral drugs are generally best used 24 to 48 hours before onset of illness. Often when we diagnose hand, foot and mouth disease, the most effective treatment stage has passed, and the use of antiviral drugs is not recommended now.

3. Treatment with traditional Chinese medicine . From the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, the reason why children suffer from hand, foot and mouth disease is because their spleen, stomach, heart and lungs are relatively delicate and their immunity is low, so they are easily invaded by viruses. Therefore, TCM treatment of hand, foot and mouth disease focuses on strengthening the spleen and stomach, clearing away heat and detoxifying.
