How to treat a red birthmark on a newborn's face

Newborns are difficult to take care of. Many people who have just become parents do not know how to best take care of their newborns. They will be particularly worried when they find some red spots on their newborns' faces. In fact, these red spots are red birthmarks, most of which are capillary hemangiomas. Many fetuses will gradually have these red birthmarks disappear after they are a few months old.

Red birthmarks are generally capillary hemangiomas. Some children’s birthmarks disappear after a few months, while others will remain with them until they grow up. But generally it rarely gets bigger and bigger, it just grows in proportion. If it does not disappear, it can be removed with laser when the baby is older. Taking medicine or applying lotion is not recommended because it is a mild skin deformity but does not affect the skin function.

In the past, due to confusion in traditional classification, hemangiomas and vascular malformations were confused. Some people believed that the red birthmarks on the baby's face could disappear on their own. In fact, this is inaccurate. Only neonatal nevus can disappear, while red birthmarks such as port-wine stains and strawberry hemangiomas will not disappear on their own.

Moreover, the color of the port-wine stain will become darker and the area will expand as the child grows older. The darker the color, the deeper the location of the abnormal blood vessel, and the more difficult it is to treat. Small strawberry hemangiomas may regress, but those that grow quickly and are large in size will not regress on their own and may develop into mixed hemangiomas, making treatment more difficult. They are prone to rupture and bleed during the growth or degeneration process, causing the risk of infection. Therefore, experts recommend early detection, early diagnosis and early treatment of red birthmarks on babies’ faces.

For infant port-wine stains, parents should first take their babies to a regular hospital for relevant treatment, and then follow the doctor's advice and receive treatment in a regular hospital. Nowadays, hospitals usually use dual-wavelength (Cynergy) laser vascular disease technology. This technology is non-traumatic, painless, leaves no scars after healing, and can be treated and left at the same time. It is the most advanced treatment technology currently. Experts will decide the best treatment plan based on the patient's condition.

If it does not disappear but instead gets deeper, some treatment should be given. If no treatment measures are taken at this time, it is likely to affect the baby's future appearance development and cause some defects on their face. This will also cause great psychological harm to them, so surgery should be performed to remove it.
