Baby's eyes are a little squinting

If you find that your baby has one eye strabismus, you must correct it, especially when they are still young, so as to avoid more serious consequences. Sometimes it may be a special type of strabismus, which may be caused by a congenital disease. In this case, you must have your baby wear glasses and adjust their correct sitting and standing posture, which can also improve the symptoms.

Baby's eyes are a little squinting

1. Concomitant strabismus

It is generally believed that accommodative strabismus is mainly caused by neural factors, mechanical factors or both, or by refractive errors and anisometropia. Neural factors include gaze reflex, fusion reflex, and dysfunction of the cerebral cortex and subcortical eye movement centers; mechanical factors are anatomical factors, such as anatomical variations of the eyeball size, shape, and extraocular muscles. Refractive error can cause incoordination between accommodation and convergence. Generally speaking, hyperopia often causes esotropia, and myopia often causes exotropia.

2. Paralytic strabismus

It is an eye deviation caused by complete or partial paralysis of one or more extraocular muscles due to organic lesions of the nerve nucleus, nerve or extraocular muscles themselves. Congenital paralytic strabismus is mainly caused by congenital developmental abnormalities, birth injuries and extraocular muscle deficiency. Acquired paralytic strabismus has an acute onset and a definite time of onset. It can be caused by inflammation such as head and orbital trauma, encephalitis and meningitis, orbital apex abscess, cavernous sinus thrombosis, as well as hypertension, cerebrovascular accident, intracranial tumors, and metabolic diseases such as diabetes.

3. Special types of strabismus

The causes of different types may be different, but most are congenital developmental abnormalities. The incidence is relatively rare.

1. Concomitant strabismus

Correct existing refractive errors and promote good vision development. Treat amblyopia, perform orthoptic training, and surgery can be used to treat strabismus that cannot be corrected after wearing glasses for half a year. The surgery is mainly to adjust the imbalance between muscles, weaken the stronger muscles and strengthen the weaker muscles.

(ii) Paralytic strabismus

1. Treat the causes: trauma, inflammation, tumors and hypertension.

2. Drug treatment: Vitamin B1, vitamin B12 and ATP, glucocorticoids and antibiotics are effective for neuritis and myositis. Botulinum toxin A injection into the medial rectus muscle can treat acute abducens nerve palsy or medial rectus muscle spasm. For strabismus with a degree less than 10 prisms, a moderate prism can be used.

3. Surgical treatment can be considered after the cause has been eliminated and the paralyzed muscle has stopped progressing for 6 months.
