The dangers of premature babies born 8 months ago

A baby born at eight months of pregnancy is considered a premature baby. First of all, the weight of a premature baby does not meet the standard of full-term pregnancy. In addition, the body is relatively thin and the body development is not complete. Therefore, premature babies have poor physical constitution and need more strengthened care. If they are not properly cared for or their physical constitution is too poor, it will be very harmful to premature babies. Let's take a look at this aspect.

The dangers of premature babies born 8 months ago

If the fetal lungs are not yet mature during premature birth, the lungs of the premature baby will not be able to expand well after birth, and breathing difficulties will occur. In severe cases, death may occur. The liver of premature babies is immature, the enzyme system of the liver is not fully developed, and they lack vitamin K, which can easily cause bleeding.

The body temperature center of premature babies is underdeveloped, they have less subcutaneous fat and a relatively large body surface area. Their body temperature rises and falls with changes in the external environment and is generally low. If they do not pay attention to keeping warm, serious problems such as edema and pulmonary hemorrhage may occur.

Premature babies are prone to jaundice, which can sometimes be severe. Their sucking ability is poor, feeding is more difficult, and they may suffer from hypoglycemia.

How to care for an eight-month-old premature baby

1. Pay attention to temperature. The room temperature should be maintained at 34-36 degrees, and the relative humidity should be 55-65%. The lighter you are, the higher the ambient temperature should be. Take your baby's temperature every day. The room should be ventilated in summer, but there should be no draft. In winter, the quilt should be wrapped warmly and a hot water bottle can be used to keep warm if necessary. When conditions are not met, you can often hold your child close to your arms. When changing your child's clothes in winter, be quick. Clothes, sheets, etc. should be warmed up before being given to children.

2. Pay attention to feeding. Premature babies generally start feeding 6 hours after birth. Those who are too weak and too small can start feeding later. They should first be fed 10% sugar water 1-2 times, 3-5 ml each time. If the baby eats well, you can switch to breastfeeding. Feeding should be small amounts and multiple times, with breast milk being preferred. If there is not enough breast milk or no breast milk, you can feed the baby with cow's milk diluted in a ratio of 3:1, that is, 75 ml of milk plus 25 ml of water.

3. Prevent infection. This is the key to care. When nursing, make sure to wash bottles and other utensils and boil them to sterilize them. Children's clothes should be clean. Check your child's skin every day to see if there are any abscesses, whether the navel is discharge of pus, or if there is redness or swelling. If you find any abnormality, go to the hospital for treatment as soon as possible.

During pregnancy, pregnant women should pay attention to their physical condition and try not to cause the baby to be born prematurely due to external factors. If the child is born prematurely, the child will need to stay in the hospital for a few more days. He or she can only be discharged after the premature baby's condition stabilizes and the doctor's permission is obtained. After discharge, the child will need to be taken care of carefully and given more care.
