Premature babies are

Premature babies are a huge burden to their families because their vital signs are very unstable and their lives may be in danger at any time. Therefore, in order to maintain the life of a premature baby and allow it to gradually recover and grow, the family needs to spend a lot of financial and material resources, which is a heavy burden for ordinary families. The physical condition of premature babies is very weak. Let’s take a look at what premature babies are.

Live-born infants born before 37 weeks of gestation are called premature infants. Most of their birth weight is below 2500g and their head circumference is below 33cm. Their organ function and adaptability are worse than those of full-term infants, and premature infants should be given special care. Any baby whose birth weight is reduced to below the 10th percentile of normal weight for gestational age or two standard deviations below the mean due to factors such as placental insufficiency is called a small for gestational age baby (small for gestational age, poorly mature baby). Babies with a birth weight below 2500g are collectively referred to as low-weight babies, and those with a birth weight below 1500g are referred to as very low-weight babies, including premature babies and those small for gestational age.

Since the mechanism that causes the onset of labor is not yet fully understood, there are still many unknowns about the causes of premature birth. In the analysis of clinical medical records, most of the causes of premature birth are:

1. Hypertensive disorders complicating pregnancy.

2. Early rupture of membranes, early placental abruption or placenta previa.

3. Multiple pregnancy or polyhydramnios.

4. Chronic diseases, such as heart disease, kidney disease, nephritis, liver disease, diabetes, severe pulmonary tuberculosis, endocrine disorders (such as habitual premature birth), malnutrition, etc.

treat

Premature babies must be kept warm at birth and handled gently and quickly. Catching a cold often causes irreparable complications, and the temperature in the delivery room must be maintained at around 25°C. In order to prevent asphyxia, it is best not to use anesthetics or sedatives that may affect the fetal respiratory center during labor. When the fetal head is delivered, the mucus in the fetal mouth and nasal cavity is squeezed out first. If it is not cleaned up completely, you can use a sterilized straw to suck it out when the fetus is completely delivered, and use endotracheal intubation if necessary. Do not wipe the inside of your mouth with gauze to avoid scratching the mucous membrane and causing infection. Give oxygen promptly to those with breathing difficulties or cyanosis. After the umbilical cord is cut, use sterilized vegetable oil gauze to gently wipe away excess vernix caseosa in the wrinkles under the neck, armpits, groin, etc., and then wrap the baby with cloth. Use 0.25% chloramphenicol or 0.5% neomycin eye drops to prevent conjunctivitis. Once all procedures are completed, transfer the baby to a temperature-adjusted premature baby incubator as soon as possible. The cure criteria are that premature babies are in general good condition, have good breastfeeding, weigh about 2,300 grams, have no symptoms of anemia or other nutritional deficiencies, and can maintain normal body temperature at room temperature of 21 to 24 degrees Celsius. They can then be discharged from the hospital.
