What are the early symptoms of encephalitis in children?

Encephalitis is a very serious disease. If it occurs in a child, the harm will be greatly increased. We need to remind everyone that this is usually an acute infectious disease, especially in summer and autumn when the incidence rate is highest. It is most likely to occur in children with poor physical resistance. This will seriously affect the child's physical and mental development. So if a child develops encephalitis, what symptoms will there be in the early stages?

Early symptoms of encephalitis in children:

1. Children in the prodromal phase have symptoms such as fever, headache, myalgia, vomiting, and diarrhea.

2. The symptoms of encephalitis vary in severity, mainly manifesting as neuropsychiatric abnormalities. Manifestations of neurological abnormalities include fever, headache, vomiting, drowsiness, coma, convulsions, etc. In severe cases, abnormal symptoms may occur in the cerebrum, hypothalamus, basal ganglia, brainstem, cerebellum and spinal cord. Mental abnormalities manifest as excitement, talkativeness, irritability, crying and laughing at random, insomnia, abnormal behavior, hallucinations, fantasies, or indifferent expression, silence, decreased activity, refusal to eat, poor orientation, memory loss, incontinence, etc.

3. Associated symptoms are symptoms of corresponding viral infection before or at the same time as the onset of encephalitis.

The early symptoms of pediatric encephalitis mainly include fever, headache, tearing, runny nose, vomiting, diarrhea, drowsiness, and mental abnormalities. Some symptoms are very similar to those of a cold, so many family members do not take them seriously, resulting in delayed treatment and causing lifelong pain to the patients.

If children with encephalitis miss the opportunity for treatment, some sequelae will occur. Mild cases may affect their normal life, such as difficulty eating, hearing impairment, and difficulty in movement. Severe cases may cause the child to be unable to speak, have a decline in intelligence, or even be paralyzed in bed.

It is very important to prevent encephalitis. Children should be fed more green and hygienic food, less unhealthy food, more vegetables and fruits. In addition, they should eat some garlic and onion appropriately to kill bacteria and disinfect. Children should also be taken to exercise more to improve their physical fitness.

However, parents should not worry too much. As long as encephalitis is discovered and treated early, diagnosed in time, and receives regular treatment, it can be cured. The key is not to delay treatment, otherwise the consequences will be very serious.
