What to do if your child is mentally retarded

What to do if your child is mentally retarded

Since ancient times, our country has hoped that their children can become successful, become superior people, and bring honor to the family. Under normal circumstances, people's IQs are similar. However, for some people who are born with poor intellectual development, it will have a certain impact on their future studies, careers and lives. Over time, it will also have an impact on the child's psychology. At this time, parents can help their children exercise their intelligence. Below we summarize some ways to exercise children's intelligence and the reasons for children's poor intelligence.

Reasons for the baby's intellectual retardation:

1. Genetic defects

If it is a dominant chromosomal inheritance, then if one of the parents has an intellectual problem, the chance of the child being mentally retarded is 1/2; if it is an autosomal recessive inheritance, the parents may look normal, but if they have already given birth to a child with intellectual disability, the child may have a 1/2 chance of being mentally retarded.

If a woman gives birth to a mentally retarded child, then the probability that her subsequent sons or daughters will also be mentally retarded is 1/4. So, there is a question of probability here. If parents are mentally retarded, it does not necessarily mean that their children will be mentally retarded.

2. Chromosomal abnormalities

There are many children with developmental disorders due to chromosomal abnormalities, and most of them have intellectual problems, the most typical of which are babies with Down syndrome.

3. Inherited enzyme metabolic disorders

There are many diseases that affect intelligence due to enzyme metabolism disorders, the most common of which is phenylketonuria. Large amounts of phenylpyruvate and ketoacid can cause varying degrees of damage to the rapidly developing nervous system of infants, leading to intellectual disability.

4. Drug effects

If a pregnant mother is sick, she must be cautious when taking medicine on her own, because many drugs can enter the placenta through the blood, affecting the health of the fetus and even causing mental retardation. Therefore, if pregnant mothers are sick, they must go to the hospital for diagnosis.

Take medicine as directed by your doctor and do not abuse it on your own.

Small ways to train children's intelligence:

1. Eat with your eyes closed.

In order to use the brain consciously, some information, such as visual information, can be blocked. Let your child close his eyes and use other senses to find food and then put it into his mouth. This can stimulate the sense of touch, taste and smell, thereby enhancing the function of related areas in the brain.

2. Memorize a song.

Many of us have a memory of old songs, but why not expand our memory by learning some new tunes? It will take a little time at first, but if you keep doing it, you will find it gets easier. This is the brain recovery state.

3. Practice meditation.

There are many ways to meditate. The simplest form of meditation is to spend some time alone to relax and focus your thoughts.

4. Get enough rest.

Lack of sleep can affect the ability to absorb new information; the brain needs rest to work at its best. This means that all those all-nighters in college are much less effective than you might think. This may be why things always seem clearer after a good night's sleep.

5. Exercise regularly.

One study found that physical exercise actually helps expand the size of the brain, and cardiovascular exercise improves brain function by improving blood flow to the brain.

6. Eat a good breakfast.

This is not unrealistic. Eating a good breakfast really gives your child a good start to the day. You should eat a breakfast high in protein and high-quality carbohydrates. Two slices of whole-wheat toast with peanut butter would fit the bill. Eggs are also a good source of protein. Nuts, milk and fresh fruit all provide good nutrition for the brain.

7. Think positively.

Let your children learn to encourage themselves. Positive thinking will improve brain efficiency and help avoid disappointment. The brain is like a computer, garbage in, garbage out. Find positive, encouraging people to hang out, read material that makes people happy, and do anything that makes you feel good. These things will help the mind become more productive.

8. Stop relying on GPS.

It's good mental exercise for children to use their brains to figure out how to get from point A to point B. The brain's ability to determine spatial relationships must be used to improve the efficiency of map reading and navigating the city.

9. Eat more lecithin.

Acetylcholine is the "lubricant" of the brain, which makes the brain more active. Lecithin can be converted into acetylcholine. Therefore, eating more foods rich in lecithin, such as peanuts, soybeans, and edamame, will help improve memory.

10. Be romantic.

Romantic people are always full of fantasies, and their minds can quickly think of people and scenes, especially girls. Women with romantic feelings always look particularly cute.

11. Break the old routine.

Choose a new route to drive to work. Try writing with your other hand. Mix something a little different into the mix. This will perk up your brain because it requires you to think more. You can’t just drive on autopilot. Challenge your brain by getting out of your rut and it will respond. It's a great way to get your brain flowing.

12. Don’t watch too much TV.

Researchers have found that watching too much TV between the ages of 1 and 3 can lead to attention problems in children. Let's face it, television numbs the mind. Get up from the couch and away from the TV. Sure, there are some good educational programs for kids and adults, but Americans overall watch too much television. If you want to be productive mentally, turn off the TV.

13. Deal with digital problems.

Do mental arithmetic instead of using a calculator. For many of us it's use it or lose it. We have become mentally lazy. We rely on tools instead of thinking for ourselves. Processing and memorizing numbers is a great way to get your brain back in shape. That can pay back plenty of dividends along the way.

14. Keep learning.

Never stop wondering about the world, seeking out new experiences, skills and knowledge, think of something you always wanted to learn to do and start doing it. A now famous study showed that certain areas of the brain are more developed in London taxi drivers than in the average citizen. This is because they need to learn how to navigate the maze of city streets. We can use this technology to challenge our brains and increase our abilities.

15. Remind you of distant memories.

Dig out old photos and start looking through them; this will tap into your mental memory bank. Images will help people remember things that have been forgotten. Digging deep is all that is remembered. If there are other ways to jog your memory, like old letters and home movies, use those as much as possible.
