Symptoms of drug overdose in babies

Symptoms of drug overdose in babies

Children are a special population because the incidence of diseases among children is very high, mainly due to their low immunity. When children become ill, the treatment method is different from that for adults, mainly because children's gastrointestinal systems are weak. If they accidentally ingest adult medicines, it can easily lead to an excess of hormones and other serious consequences. It is not advisable to overdose the baby when feeding the medicine. What should I do if I accidentally overdose the baby?

The so-called children-specific medicines are medicines designed to suit the special physique and needs of children, using flavor correctors to improve the bitter taste at the entrance and increase children's acceptance. Use original packaging, unrepacked, and clearly labeled medicines. The package should come with a measuring device or feeder with dosage scales so that parents can easily grasp the dosage. It is safe, convenient, and easy to take.

Children's medicines account for a small proportion of the total amount of medicines and are of few types

Relevant data from the State Food and Drug Administration show that among the more than 3,500 chemical pharmaceutical preparations in my country, 90% of the drugs do not have children's dosage forms. Children's medicines only account for 10% of all medicines in pharmacies. Most of the time, children can only take "reduced-dose versions" of adult medicines. There are three main reasons for the lack of children's medicines and the low overall development level: first, children account for a relatively low proportion of the population and belong to a niche group. The production volume of children's medicines is low, the batches are large, and the cost is high; second, the research and development time of children's medicines is long and the production cost is too high, which makes many manufacturers unwilling to produce; third, there is a lack of volunteers for clinical trials of children's medicines, making development and research more difficult.

Choosing adult medicine for babies is a helpless move

Some parents said that although they know that many adult medicines have serious side effects and are not suitable for babies. But there are too few medicines specifically for children, and choosing one is more difficult than choosing one for adults. What is most important is to get my baby back to health as soon as possible, so I can only take the risk and choose adult medicine.

If the baby has accidentally ingested medicine and the amount is too large, you can let her vomit it out. You can try inducing vomiting. It is best to let her vomit it out. Let the baby lie prone on the mother's lap, and then use your fingers to gently stimulate the outside of the baby's throat. Be sure to be gentle.
