When do babies develop a sense of taste?

When a baby is just born, his body is very soft and he has no ability to take care of himself. He also does not have many life skills and needs careful care from adults. We all know that taste is very important to the human body. Taste allows us to taste the food we eat every day and many delicious foods. Do newborn babies have a sense of taste or when will they develop a sense of taste? Come and find out with the editor.

Newborns already have a good sense of taste and can finely distinguish the taste of solutions from birth. Normally, the tip of the tongue is most sensitive to sweetness, the root of the tongue is most sensitive to bitterness, and the edge of the tongue is most sensitive to sourness. At the same time, the tip and edge of the tongue are very sensitive to saltiness. Newborns who are only one day old have different sucking intensity and amount for sugar water of different concentrations. Soon after birth, they are able to distinguish different tastes, expressing pleasure in slightly sweet sugar water, pain in lemon juice, and can also distinguish between sugar solutions of different concentrations. Has an unpleasant expression in response to salty, sour, or bitter liquids. Will show denial through pouting lips and irregular breathing.

The development of taste

The fetus' mouth begins to develop in the second month. By the fourth month of pregnancy, the taste buds on the fetus' tongue are basically fully developed and can taste the amniotic fluid with relish. The taste nerve bundles are myelinated when the fetus is 7 to 8 months old, so the sense of taste is fully developed at birth. By this time the baby is able to taste the amniotic fluid. Babies aged 4 to 5 months are already very sensitive to slight changes in food. During the period from 6 months to 1 year old, the baby's sense of taste develops most sensitively.

Taste training

1. After the baby is born, the first taste stimulation given to him is breast milk or milk substitute. If other taste stimulation is not given in time, it will cause the baby to have picky eating and refuse to eat. Therefore, mothers should feed their babies some orange juice when they are 2 and a half months old. When they are around 4 months old, they can use chopsticks to dip in various vegetable soups to let the baby taste them.

2. After 6 months, parents can encourage their babies to taste different flavors and use certain language to reinforce the training process, such as asking the baby "Is it sour?" Prepare some delicious fruits (such as bananas, oranges, apples, etc.) and let your baby taste them. Tell your baby that bananas are sweet, oranges and apples are sweet and sour, and then ask him which flavor he likes.

3. Prepare three liquids with different flavors: sweet, sour, and salty. Mom, Dad and baby taste the liquids together. Tell your baby "this is sweet", "that is sour", "this is salty", etc. Try it again to deepen your impression.
